Typically we have some rain and sleet first or its been warner and ground is not cold and we get some melting that equals ice. Each step smashed the snow and its instant ice foot print dog trap on the porch and side walk.


This system is powder the ground and lakes icing over before the snow came. Its easy to sweep the sidewalk clean and even down to bare ground.

Since I do best when I first get up I took the dogs out and sweep the back porch and a nice path back 160' to the wood burner. Looks like only about 4 to 7 inches so far but had a 1/4 back on the porch by the time I made it back from making the path and filling the wood burner.

I can see why people up north dont mind snow as much if its like this. If it was the wet heavy snow I would have had to shovel the path lifting/pushing it vs sweep/ push that fine powder. I would not have got a path as nice and wide and maybe as far .at one time..( sucks to have health issues and have to admit your body cant do what your mind thinks you stimm can.)

Anyway so far this is a nice change in constancy. Hopefully its also easier on the road crews. I plan on staying tucked in the house unless the road gets cleared then it will be taking the boys to shovel snow sitting in tha van or truck while they get after it..

O the old dog was acting like a puppy jumping around and at all the fine powder with each sweep that threw some. Even barking and biting at it ad it hit her. The younger dog had fun but was wanting in on the porch by the time I went in. He is not as nice longer dfur or near the fat on him.

Its a nice quiet dark and peaceful morning and not to cold at 15° cold for here but not going to fill cold as its going to get.

The wife and had to go out today to help her sister. ( She is OK now) The snow was like silk and squeaked when on. Intersections were very slippery. Stay safe everyone.

Cold but still wet, not frozen. We dodged it by a degree or two.

I'm with you PF. The wet heavy stuff kills my back and isn't good for my heart. When it's cold (minus 26 now) we mostly get lake effect from Superior which is usually light and fluffy here. The major problem is that it blows around making big drifts. Anything beats ice and wind.

I hope it stays that way for you, Warrior! It looks like some other places down that way aren't so lucky.

We are essentially trapped in the house. Got a light dusting of snow then rain with freezing temps. It is still raining at 26F. Outside the house, including the driveway where I put out salt, is about 1/2" of ice with water on top. Cannot walk on the drive or deck. Getting to the grass where I might be able to walk means crossing the deck or going down the iced up front steps. I could maybe crawl to my garage/shop but there is no point in trying to go upright because after a few steps I would be down. Rain is forecast to continue all day and into the night with temps increasing to the low 40's by afternoon before dropping below freezing again. Not a pretty picture. Never been trapped in the house before.

Just started to snow here temp is 7 ,suppose to get 16-20 inches and end with sleet .Seems like all our snow storms end with rain or sleet on top making it a heavy mess

Our temps are forecast to be single digit to just below zero for lows for about the next week. I dont think the snow is going to melt anytime soon. Heaters are running non stop and wood burner (outdoor) is eating the wood. Got 5 more small truck loads (ranger) in the 24 hours befor the storm on the. pile. Figuring i won't be able to get around to meet any cut for a while.

Saw 40lb bags of nut coal at Tractor supply so bought the 4 bags they had. Have not burned coal except the 3.2 tons I got at an Indiana mine. High sulfur . It burned hot but I didn't like it. Had to mix it in with wood to keeo it going. Thought I would try this on Monday when it going to be cold and see if the better coal makes a difference. Check burn times and see if its cost effective( i dont think it will be) but being limited and board its a good experiment. And I have not smelled coal smoke in a while.

Crazy how this is cold and a lot of snow for us and like summer temps and a dusting to so many of our members up north..

We get such little snow here now that it’s a major news event when ANY is forecasted. Everything is a winter weather advisory.

10° and snowing. General snow fall and no lake effect is nice. Only supposed to get a foot. Easy to deal with.
This kind of temp for a week and we might lock in Lake Erie with ice. That will stop the lake effect machine.

We get more wet heavy snow then dry powder snow where I live. Warms up and starts to snow heavy wet and freezes to roads and power lines everything. Breaks down trees and causes a lot of problems. We might get some dry stuff in January but other then that it is full of moisture 90% of the time.

Nut coal is just hard anthracite graded about the size of nuts, about 2"

-29 here for the low this morning. Almost calm and sun shine. It shows the high as 7 below today. Although it is colder then what we have had this winter, it is nothing new to see lows of -20 to -35 for a week. At least we don't have any wind right now.

we have 11 inches an still falling but its a light snow, so the back isnt hurting from shoveling but when the wind picks up we'll have some good drifts.

daughter just text me an said the county went to a level 3 snow emergency so everything's shut down.
