That fence made enough power they even sent phone calls to the city folks demonstrated by the extra high corner post and the wire running up it. A better version of the Green Acres one, at least its the modern version and no need to climb the pole to use the phone !

As a retired phone guy, no way it would have worked. You would need two separate insulated strands for tip and ring.

if you can make a phone with 2 soup cans and a string why not.
