I always added cheap bird seed (millet) to my grain to act like grit for digestion.

I put some alfalfa out for the deer, they're out during daylight now so you know they're hungry.

I always feel bad for all wildlife. Some years 2 to 3 feet of snow and holes all over in snow for then and big game to get to something to eat. Really sad some years.
Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime

I wish we could feed the critters here. I'm in a cwd zone so it's illegal. I used to really enjoy watching the deer all winter. Same here! I would sit staring out the window for hours watching them. I think 23 is the most I had in the yard at one time. It made it easy to find sheds too.
I have nothing clever to put here.

We plant food plots that provide winter groceries for the deer. Depending on yield, we also put out mixed grain for the deer. We feed the birds too.

I have two oriental pear trees that have little fruit balls and have a flock of robins that come now every day. Did not even know there were robins around until now......jk

My daughters dog found a dead, froze pheasant yesterday. I have had times when I had up to 30 pheasants coming in and I gave them a five gallon bucket of mixed grain on the drive way every morning. By spring thaw it would be down to less then five. Every storm there would be a few less. We do not have hawks here in the winter. The great horned owls and snowy owls are hard on them here.

This year we boned out my deer, my son in law's and granddaughter's deer. We save the trimmings that aren't edible such as fat, blood shot meat, and etc. I put them in a wire basket for the birds. They love it. Plus, I have two seed bird feeders, one with sunflower seeds, the other with mixed feed. It seems you never get all the meat off the bones especially the neck. So, I hang the bones in a tree until they are picked clean.
Stop giving them free benefits and they will deport themselves.
