Orange obviously, if you want to start an argument.

I’m guessing wood from the top of tree will be around 13%. Down by the trunk will be 25%.

We cut standing dead every year, lodgepole pine , for our wood stove.
Burns great and yes we have to clean the chimney several times a year.
Osage orange does burn hot, if you have a wood stove with a glass window be careful. It can pop hard enough and burn hot enough to break the glass.

Standing beetle kill burns great, standing dead from fires not so much. Those trees died with the sap still up and it does not burn well. It seems too sweet also while burning.

Cut a standing dead post oak over Christmas, burns great as well.

If the bark fell off shouldn't be that much moisture in the wood, I'd say less than 10% unless you had a big rain before you cut it.

Yes , It will burn. and better with time stored dry.

the question is how much moisture is it holding

and how much will that be an issue in your chimney

higher limbs and trunk will likely burn better and less so as you get to the stump , it depends on species but some still get moisture from the ground.

ASH as an example was sometimes called the Kings wood , because in winter it was dry enough to be burned the day it was fell. You were taxed on your store of winter fire wood. if you cut it and burned it the same day the tax collector wasn't around to tax you on it.

some pine can also be burned right away but while it burns it still gives off a lot of moisture and that cools in the chimney and creates creosote

that gets to how the measurement will be taken

the directions on most meters require room temp peice so between 66 and 72 degrees , then split and measured along the grain in the middle of the fresh split

I say 16.5%

I have no experience with gum , you are high water table , near coast , and if you say worse condition than you though , 20%+ is very possible

Well dang, it seems conditions are ln’t good for an actually true measurement (temp is 15°) but we can just go with whatever number shows up if everybody that is playing is good with it. (Already have the video, so it is what it is)

Everybody good?

I don't worry about smoke or chimney fires any more with my outdoor unit 160' away from the house. And with 2'x2' door and 36"×47' fire box I dont split much small . With my big dragty house she sure eats the wood. I have brought in around 20 ford ranger pickup loads so far this year so far.

That beast will burn anything. Gets rid of carcass well to.

I'll take whatever number they don't take.
