Exact same thing happened to me in my 2000 tacoma. It was the alternator that was bad.

I also vote for the bad alternator. Had it happen once myself. Got to a service station before the car died. Was a New Years night. Tightened the belt and all was well.

… battery dead in the voltage meter so can’t check the alternator … quite a bit of corrosion on the positive terminal

… in the morning I’ll pour some coke on it and brush it off … fairly new battery and alternator so …

Got tired of my daughter calling me when she still lived here.....went and bought her a brand new car and told her to call the dealership if it stops.

… it’s hard trying to saving up enough for their education and keep them in reliable transportation… about ready to just turn this place into a compound where we just live off the land lol

I was one of 8 kids and like clothes, we had a hand-me-down car to get us to work until we bought our own car. Might as well bite the bullet now, lol

When the the battery is not being charged the vehicle will run tell it kills the battery. But will run off the alternator once its started if the alternator is good if its been jumped.


I went through 3 alternator in a month on my 7.3 Ford excursion. One went bad before I made it 3 blocks.

Stuff is junk these days.

This is why shops don't like working on vehicles older than 10 years, parts are junk. Went through 3 starters in my truck before getting a good one.

When my alternators would quit working, my mechanic would take the alternator out and put in new brushes. It would be good for another 200,000 miles. He retired, now I have to get replacement alternators when they crap out.
