Ok, this has probably been done before, and if its been done recently, I apologize in advance, but how do you (and probably your area) say this name:

coyote

Myself, and most people I know around here and probably my state (I'm pretty sure), say it as : "KY OT" with the e silent or part of "OT"

Other parts of the U.S. say: 'KY OT E" with the e vocal or perhaps even drawn out.

I'm not sure how its pronounced in Canada or even Alaska.

No pre-judgements by me, I'm just curious and have some geographical ideas I want to test.

Grew up western NY calling them ki-o-tees... if there was any emphasis it was on the O. "Listen to them kiOtees." Moved to Illinois and they looked at you like you were retarded if you pronounced it that way... there it was ki-yotes. After a decade I learned to drop the ee sound. Then moved to MS. Now they look at me like I'm retarded if I don't say ki-O-tee.....

Thanks for the responses so far. Interesting stuff.

KY OAT or just YOTE at times

I also often shorten it down to YOTE many times, as do the local TV sportcasters when they are talking about the University of South Dakota sports teams by making YOTE plural.

They also shorten down the South Dakota State University' sports teams to the "Jacks" from Jackrabbits.Too bad we hardly have any jackrabbits (white-tail species) in southeast SD anymore. I used have a blast hunting those things, especially with high powered rifles when they stopped at distances too far for .22s or if they got up out of shotgun range. Not much for table fare though...

Kie Yote

Kie like Pie Yote like Tote definitely a O sound for me although if talking to someone who knows what they is it's just Yote or Yotes plural

The origin is a Nahuatl (Aztec) word. "Coyotl"

I'm with ADC...sounds sissy to put the tea on the end.
