talked with a number of people who have expressed just spread my ashes out (insert location).

having been the custom to be buried in a cemetery or have your cremains buried in a cemetery for well most of all of our past here in the US

it seems so many of us now are just spread my ashes , where I hunted , where I fished , in my fields.

where are you at with this ?

It might change for me. right now it is a place we fished

my late wife asked one thing , where ever I end up she ends up she had no preference other than to be in the same place.

Bud , I used to be pretty apathetic about what should be done with my remains.

However, after coming back to Christ and delving deep into scripture, I want a burial. There’s a lot of references where some endangered their lives to recover fallen troops and executed individuals to give them a proper burial.

So that’s where I’m at .

That said , don’t let me sway you one way or another.

To me, it seems better to have your ashes spread somewhere in nature, than stuck in an urn on a shelf, or buried in an urn in a graveyard.

I'm leaning towards cremation. I plan on making an urn to hold my ashes. My wife said she wants her ashes in the same urn as mine. I ask her if that was so she could torment me for all eternity. grin

Her mother was cremated and some of her ashes were placed inside jewelry on necklaces, they were given to the daughters and granddaughters. I liked that idea.

Eh...wot?

to me that bringing them back from battle is a closure thing for the family
as much as it is a honor thing for their comrades , if you don't recover your dead , they will be hung in the streets or worse.

seeing your relative dead does bring many closure. it takes any question out of their mind , enough stuff will run through your head you don't need any more.
even if it is that they bring back your bones from the far away land you were a POW , it brings closure.

this came up Sunday night at a church pot luck , I was sort of expecting the pastor who was sitting at our table to have concerns about not being buried or cremated and buried at a cemetery , but he had none.

my wife arranged to have some of her ashes made into glass balls besides quilting and knitting and weaving she was into making glass are, they are artistic and have different colors of glass , my oldest the art teacher saw that all through so I and each of the 3 kids have one.
in addition to those there was some glass left and 4 small glass stones about the side of a half dollar coin were made , they could be made into a necklace is a person wanted.
the rest of her is in the Urn she had made by her favorite potter and that is sitting on the shelf next to her chair in the living room.

I don't wear any jewelry at all so I just have all of it setting next to the Urn , the kids have theirs.

Many people have their ashes spread in different places. A little here and a little there. I'll be cremated. It costs to much for a burial. I'm not giving them my money. I'll be dead, so it won't matter.

I dont care when im dead I won't know the difference. That said my son is buried next to his great grandfather he is named after and has one very head stone.

To me its about how those left behind feel. Buried gives them a plact to talk and "Visit" mostly fore the first year or two after the loss. Vs saving what 30k on a funeral and using the cash for something useful. Its been a while since 07 and I was not only dealing with the loss of my son but also traumatic brain injuries but back then I their it was around 22k for the funeral home and 7900 on his head stone.

Now I have not been to the cemetery in a few years but after he was killed it was something I did and it helped I think.

I put my old German Shepherd in the out door wood burner after I had to put her down. Had snow on the frozen ground 4x4 was broken and no way to dig a hole or take her out on the farm. Got to say I did have the thought 12 years a great dog and nothing left on the earth proof she was ever here.
But if the government would allow it I would be ok if they put my corpse in the wood burner and stuck the cash saved in their pockets or in investments for themselves.
Within 60 years of my death won't be anyone that remembers me anyway.

I also will be cremated and ashes spread at my hunting camp and wilderness areas where I hunted , fished etc.. Don’t want some one in the future digging me up at a cemetery
like Egyptian Pharos looking for anything of value. LOL

This ^^. In addition, I told my wife she can keep me on a shelf to watch over her, or spread my ashes in the woods where I love to be. But DON'T put me in a cemetery, I don't like crowds. If she does decide to get a stone for me, I want "I'D RATHER BE HUNTING" on it.

I'm being cremated and have my ashes spread on the bay...I figured I took a lot from it and my way of giving a little back.....

Have a cremains story about my inlaws that I won't share here, needless to say your wishes don't always come true....

And I can see that. But even Moses was buried by God . Why not just cremate him ? God could’ve certainly done that .
Again , I’m not trying to sway yours or anyone else’s decision on this. Simply the fact that every Biblical death, accompanied a burial.
I can’t emphasize enough, it’s a very personal last wish. Certainly not trying to change anyone’s mind . It just another example of where I went from,”Just roll me into a swamp for all I care.”, to this .

Again, my friend, I’m not discouraging or encouraging either way . smile

My mom's ashes are on the Blue Ridge Parkway. My last dog is now with her. I also wish to be cremated, and I do not care where my ashes go. That is more important to my children than to me. Their call.

Just don't dump them out of an airplane window. They come right back in the cabin with you!

I have nothing clever to put here.
