So I bought this old Jansport backpack at auction for $9.

I mainly wanted the external frame to make a DIY trapping basket.

I removed the pack itself. The bottom of the frame curves out away from the lower body and the top of the frame has that bar that sticks out away from the body.

Any suggestions? Anyone made on like this they could share picks of? I guess my first though was to try and attach a 13 gal trash can to the frame somehow.

I use something similar on my cat line right now which is hike -in on a 2 mile loop. The backpack is my regular trappers bag with hammer, sifter, tools, coal shale, pan covers, traps, etc. I bungee cord it to the frame and can bungee a couple critters between the pack and frame to pack out. I thought about the trash can thing but I hate stuff knocking around making noise when hiking. You could drill holes in a trash can and use heavy duty zip ties to attach to the frame if you wanted to go that route.

I will add, that's the setup that works for me land trapping. For water trapping on a hike in spot I'd definitely do the trash can option and heavy duty zip tie it. Just so body grips, big footholds, etc would fit.

Depending on what you are trapping, you want to consider how to keep your equipment scent free. Doesn't matter for cats like Wild Idaho is trapping, or for water trapping, but for canines you probably don't want to have your traps in a cloth bag that has had lure in it, or a dead critter strapped over it leaking blood, saliva and urine down on it.

I packed in half a dozen wolf traps and set up an area today. I'm not really set up for backpack trapping, but what I did was put a trash bag inside my backpack and then carefully put clean traps inside the trash bag without touching the outer bag (which did pack out a wolf a while back). I carried waxed sand, in a bucket in one hand, with a gallon bag of anthill duff for blending and wax paper for pan covers in the bucket on top of the waxed sand, and had a small tool bag in the other hand with my digging hammer, gloves and setters inside it and lure in external pockets. Oh and a squirt bottle of urine in my shirt pocket. Only about five hundred yards, but that is still a pretty good pack with that much weight. And packing a heavy bucket in hand that far sucks, even though I taped a chunk of garden hose around the handle for extra cushion.

It looks like you can remove that upper loop of frame tubing, and may want to do so if you go with the wastebasket route, to make it easier to get stuff in and out of the basket. The lower one would help support the bottom of the wastebasket. You could either strap a tool belt around such a basket or pop rivet something to the outside of it to hold your lures and other smelly stuff.
