I have a few smaller credit limit cards, the bill statement today, showed 2 charges over $200 for Uber eats, I call the card company an was told it be investigated as fraud an likely would get money back to card, they said the thiefs are rarely caught, how in the world do the thief's get your credit card info? I don't see how anyone could have possibly gotten it

I emailed my CC info. Everything was eventually reimbursed. They said to never txt or email your cc info, too easily stolen. They froze my card at the third transaction that was suspicious. First one was at a candle store, 2nd was at Popeyes supplements and the 3rd was for some kinda tennis shoes from an expensive sports store. Never give your Cc info in an email or txt.

I have only had mine hacked once and of course it was the morning I was leaving on a hunting trip. All of the charges were small (425-75 each) and all to bookstores. The CC company took care of it but of course had to cancel my card.
I have nothing clever to put here.

my wife's card was compromised yesterday. Third time in a year and a half. All three times ,they tried a very small online purchase, to places in the Czech Republic. All three times our card company , caught it , and although inconvenient, we haven't lost a dime yet. We usually have her new card in a few days, and she just uses cash until then. She is thinking about just using cash from now on.

coonman It is a lot harder to steal cash out of your wallet. Pretty common for credit cards to be compromised.

The CC company took care of it but of course had to cancel my card. I’ve had a few charges like that from bookstores too. They were in Maryland. The other time it happened it was a waitress at a ski resort. She was the only one I used my card with while there. Two months later on closing day at the end of season party I was charged for a ton of booze. Apparently she paid for all of her friends or just gave herself a huge tip. Every time my bank did their investigation and I received my money back

they said the thiefs are rarely caught, how in the world do the thief's get your credit card info? I don't see how anyone could have possibly gotten it I recently had my business debit card hacked. It has happened with that account several time in the past, probably because I use it so much. As always, my bank took care of it. They immediately cancel the card and begin the process of issuing me a new one and they refund my money. I was told they can get your numbers using skimmers at gas pumps, ATM's, etc. But it is more common for the to run computer programs that run millions of numbers and try to match them with security codes. They test matches by doing a one cent debit. If that comes back approved they know they have a match. I was told the same as you, they almost never catch these people, I doubt they even try.
Eh...wot?

If you have cards and use them and have not had issues, you are very lucky. But the CC companies will make it right.
One thing I have done is use one card that never leaves my sight for purchases I make in person. Knock on wood, I have never had an issue with that card. I have another card that I use for online and any purchase like a restaurant where the card leaves my sight. Have had problems with that one a time or two and it is a pain to have to update all the subscriptions I use it for but that is the cost for the convenience. And I still have the other card to use until I get my replacement card.
I also quit using debit cards because the resolution process if there is a problem takes a lot longer than the credit card.

Unless they are stealing millions and millions of dollars or stealing from the government they don’t bother go after them, the credit card companies just pay it. Last month a municipality south west of me was taken for $800,000 dollars by hackers manipulating the payment process.
Getting a prepaid card can eliminate some issues like the auto renewal payments and personal information problems once the funds run out that’s all that’s available to them.

must be that time of year , 04:00 Sunday a charge for 49.99 appeared on my card , noticed it Monday , called bank , getting new card , I have 3 reoccurring charges that hit that card monthly I will need to get those changed before they want to pull if I get my new card in time.
this was some sort of 4wd and UTV parts place I had never ordered from
servers and databases get hacked card info gets stolen by skimmers at gas stations and such use it at a restaurant , the waitress takes a photo of your card front and back and either sells that info or uses it , even easier for them to sell it harder for them to get caught , why many restaurants have the terminals they bring to your table now. you order over the phone and it gets written down lots of ways , and it could have been any time while you had that card it was compromised
last time I had this I had gone on vacation 2013 , and then 2 months later my card was tried at a Walmart near where I went on vacation so it was fairly clear where it happened , I used it on a few things on that vacation the only time I could think that it was out of my hand was at a gas station that was pre pay only that the reader at the pump wasn't working well, guy held your card behind the bullet resistant glass while you filled up , probably taking your info down for later. another reason you fill the tank when you get down to half so that you have the option to drive away if you don't like the station.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

VISA gift cards are the worst. I had one hacked. Had to give them my drivers license, photo of me holding it, photo of both sides of card and copy of purchase receipt. After a month they sent me a replacement card. I went to use it that day and it was already hacked and had zero balance. Somebody at VISA had to have hacked it. I tore it up. It wasn't worth $50 to go through that process again. I have since told my relatives no gift cards anymore. Send me a check! X2 on the gift cards. Wife had one for $500. she had it for awhile and we went to buy a washing machine and when they ran the card there was a balance under $1.00 left on it. I had one for $200 laying at home that I'd had for a longtime and after that I got it and went to make a purchase and only had about $30 bucks or so left. Both of us had gotten them from our employers and of course we paid tax on them as part of our income. I called on mine and all the purchases had been made on the same day in small amounts, of course there was nothing they could do about it. If caught stealing credit card information they should get their primary hand cut off and cut their opposite eye out and tell them to have a nice life. Mean way to feel yup, justified yup.

I can't see how anyone got the cc no Things are not what they appear to be that slot the gas station you get gas from could have a device that scans your card without you know. A guy walking by can scan your card in your wallet. The whole idea is you’re not supposed know.
