I want one but it’s a bad investment at my age is the way I look at it. Create a trust and add kids and grandkids to it. Have it drawn up where one of the kids will take over if you are no longer able to If nothing else, do it for their hearing

Buy one and enjoy it. 6-900 bucks?!!! Wow I thought $350 was robbery. In fact I still do. Having a machine shop, I look at those things and I dont think I will ever buy a premade one again. I can build that in half a day with less than $50 in materials, and that is just using common machine tools without having a specific setup geared toward making cans. Granted some of the baffles are probably custom cast or machined, but I can assure you someone is absolutely BANKING at those prices. I expect that with the changes in regs, competition and market forces will start to correct that ridiculous price bubble. I sure hope so.

I am progressively becoming deaf. My cochlear implant surgery will be in May. I have to dial my hearing aid volume to the max, and that is probably harming what little hearing I still have.
Maybe all rifles should be manufactured with suppressors. I think they are ugly, but so are cochlear devices and hearing aids.

Im not sure I fully agree with you based on my past experiences. I once saw an old man hose clamp a shampoo bottle on his .22LR, shoot through it a few times, then drill out the hole a bit for clearance. It was surprisingly effective and quiet with subsonic ammo.
Saw another guy take a 8” length of 1” EMT conduit, put a keyhole notch in it so it fit over a bull barrel and twist-locked behind the sight, and packed that conduit with beer bottle caps. Cant remember how he held all together but I do know there was black electrical tape and epoxy involved. Again, very effective, accurate, and quiet with .22LR ammo.
Yes, both were no doubt illegal. Both guys have now passed on so I am not endangering anyone by talking about it.
I doubt either of these would have held up to centerfire calibers, but the point is that making something that is effective as a suppressor is just not all that complex or expensive.
And if it does become a race to the bottom, at least there will be low, mid, and high end options for those with differing needs and budgets. There will always be high end stuff made with exotic diamond-crusted gold plated titanium for those who wear a rolex on safari, but I would not be upset to see $50 cans for county boys who just want to shoot squirrels for the stew.
Now I am not saying high quality precision stuff is not better and to be appreciated like any well tuned machine, but paying as much for “a can with some threads and baffles” as one pays for a rifle with many more precision parts and manufacturing processes seems like inflated ridiculousness to me. Especially when I have witnessed some very crudely made stuff working well enough to do the job.

No point in buying one as a Va resident. They will soon be illegal here. No, but legislation has been introduced to replace the recently repealed $200 Fed tax with a $500 State tax

First time I read the thread, I really didn't know what was being talked about but the second lime through, I thought PF was talking about getting a silenced firearm without having to pay the old fashioned $200 federal license. Maybe I'm wrong. P.S. Steven 49er, I don't have that much money to begin with so I don't think "taking it with me" will be that much of a problem
