Went to ranch this morning and the turkeys are back. I set a camera up in the cedars and hoping to get a few pictures this week. When I walked back the hills they were flying out after they heard me down below them. I love to watch them fly!!

use too feed the turkey at my old camp, all winter, a year like this one with lots of snow, the predator's got smart and waited on the trail they had coming into the feeder, with in 3 weeks 38 turkey were all dead never winter feed them again , just let them go to the big farms, and winter, I think that is where the majority of the birds are this winter. Some large ranches that are feeding hundreds of cattle is where they are at.

Look like true Merriam birds. Yep, counted 25 in one picture. I like too have them around always enjoy hearing them. The hens sure like to talk while they feed and move along their journey.

Turkeys are far from being stupid. I've heard it said that if turkeys could smell, none would be taken by a turkey hunter. Now tthem big white butter ball one's, that's a different story. lol I remember a conversation on another site where that was mentioned, no one would kill one...Kip Feroce stated "I would" in response. I think they are next level cautious, very tuned in to their surroundings, which gives them a lot of credit for a bird.

Turkeys standing on 1 leg ? I've seen a lot of turkeys in my time but never saw any standing on 1 leg like snowy's picture shows. Live and learn I guess. Interesting!! I never even seen that till you pointed that out. Everything is solid ice under that snow maybe toes are cold switching up. I would like to get up high in the cedars but all ice from snow melt.
