I was thinking about taking this tree down.



But it’s putting a load on these trees underneath.




But after walking up it, I’m thinking I might just hunt from it next season.




Will it survive?

As long as some of root system is still connected to ground it will survive for a while. Wind fall trees are dangerous to take down by hand with a chainsaw. Lots of tension on all trees involved by the looks of your pictures. Especially the smaller tree holding up the larger one. If you need to take them down, I suggest you get someone with experience to help you. Or a tree feller with a rotating cutting head.

There appears to be snow, plus a lot of greenery that isn't mostly pine or fir. What is it?

The greenery is holly.

According to the leaves, the leaning tree is Wye Oak. If it will survive, I will leave it and hunt from it next year.

I think it’ll live even if it doesn’t being an oak tree chances are it’ll be safe enough to hunt from next year, if you do cut it start at the ground and cut the root ball off, it may seem like common sense but I know a guy that didn’t do that with a pine tree and started about 20 feet up, well it released the pressure and his saw got flung like coming off a trebuchet and it carried him a ways as he was standing on some branches.

if you want it to stay, cut some supports and brace it up under the main trunk, if you want to cut it down, start at the base [root ball]

Probably ok. I left a poplar half uprooted leaning at a 45 for about 12 years in my driveway. Neighbours hated it, so I left it unit a few months ago…..lol. It was still alive, being supported by an oak.

Hard to give an opinion ok this one without seeing it in person. Always be careful around rootballs, if you cut the tree off it its likely to try and pop back into place. There's a story about a guy taking refuge during a storm under a root ball only to have the tree stand back up in the storm, they found a skelton years later when the tree up rooted again

Not a root ball but I have one split off running down to the ground if was thinking fire wood. But its not steep looks attached well enough and in a good location I was planing on putting up a stand so im leaving it to hunt off of.

Doing that it all depends on how well its attached or anchored.

I have another large cherry thats uprooted but hanging uo in other tree. Its to steep and I want it down. BUT without Arial equipment I cant get back there ther is no safe way for me to manually climb and get it out. Not that im able to climb them any longer. I still have tie equipment and knowledge but body no longer functions like it used to or as I expect it to at times. So it can stay tell it rots and falls.

Not being able to, could be a blessing, at one point yesterday I heard a little voice speaking to me as I was standing on that tree with a phone in one hand taking pictures, “at 62, you probably shouldn’t be so eager to be this careless.” I quickly put the phone in my pocket and exited the tree. lol

Id leave it to the younger treecutters! At 62 you can't move fast enough.

I'm 36 and fairly certain I picked up another concussion yesterday when a branch fell out of a tree. I cut trees 4 days a week almost year round and I still feel like I dodge death once or twice a year, trees suck.

Ouch, glad you’re still with us. Take care of the concussion. It ain’t good stacking them on top of one another.

Hobbie if it were me I would want that tree gone. Soon the better if it were mine.
