stick to oil , maybe a couple more coats but stick to oil

Trouble with laminate wood is the glue that holds the layers together also seals the wood that's what makes laminated wood stocks so stable. Oil or stain aren't going to penetrate very good. Hopefully whoever's gun it is is going to be ok with a painted stock after you stripped that one down to bare wood.

That's what I was thinking too. You did a great job on reworking the stock. A walnut stain would look good on it.

I did do a little looking and there is a video on YouTube from boyds showing how to stain one of their stocks so I guess it is do able. Im guessing whatever wood they use is a pretty light colored wood and with just oil it won't get real dark like say walnut
