There are some big though.

The fish was netted by the G&F three springs before I speared it. It was 41" long when they netted it the first time. The next spring the netted it again, half to three forth the length of Lake Sakakawea. A search said the lake is 180 mile long and 14 miles wide at the widest point. I speared it half way between the two points it was netted at. I looked for the e-mail about it and did not see it.

Snowy I eat my share of pike and I have nothing against them. They are fun to spear if you get where there is fish. Here are some speared pike a couple years ago. the 2 are 20+ pounds. The one had a lip tag.

Pike, they were for supper. I think I may have foundered. I will know more about the founder in the morning.

Any chance those pike are feeding on 2# perch for breakfast? If so, I would drive half way across the country to catch their breakfast and spend the day jawing with you. Heck, I might even try my hand at poking one of them slimers. wink

How'd you go about cooking them? I learned to fillet them to get boneless meat many years ago, so my favorite is just cut them into bluegill fillet size and deep fry them after breading in Andy's Red fish breading.

trapperkeck I hear of them catching 10"-12" perch pretty often and I go along and they were way bigger yesterday. I tell them they must have got wet and shrunk 50%
ADC I fried them in Louisiana seasoned fish fry. #8 Griswold I like Andy's more, but have not seen it in about a year up here.
ou812 Spearing can be a hoot, or a lot like looking at a TV with no picture. You keep looking and never see a thing.

Ain’t that the truth! Grew up spearing with my grandpa and he liked to go for BIG ones, not quantity, hence lot of sitting and seeing nothing but then seeing a nice one and maybe getting a chance at it! I remember sitting multiple days and seeing zero fish, then getting a 19 lber the next day along with about a 8 lber the same day! Looking back, I think I learned a lot of patience in the spear house. Keep it up! Happy trapping! ScottW

Spearing reminds me of calling. You sit looking and looking, all of a sudden there one is. A big part is spearing is having fish where you spear. If the population is down you will not see much. I have had times I have seen 40-60 pike in a four or five hour sit. If you sit there now, you may see two or three.
