Carlos rossi sangria in a 1 gallon jug $16.99. Used to be $8.99 when I was in high school. Showing up to a beer party with 2 gallons of wine made for some funny stories about red puke in the snow

That sangria makes for a great red meat marinade, especially duck or goose.

I do have a leg-up from most wine drinkers because my granddaughter is an Advanced Sommelier whom has worked for Abercrombie & Fitch wine auctions. She’ll be coming back from Germany next month to take her Master Sommelier test. Whenever she comes to visit us for a few days we’ll go down to my local whiskey & wine shop and she gives old grandpa a lesson on what to buy and why. Not all wines are expensive, we like many $20 New Zealand white wines, many reds from Australia in the same price range. One other red comes to mind, Tres Picos as an example, a Granacha is a $20 wine and goes great with about all red meat.

I'm not really a wine guy, but I occasionally drop $25 for a blueberry wine that my wife likes. I would give good money for a bottle of Mr Dobbins' Skeeter Pee. I had a small sample last summer, and it was really good.

Speaking of wine, I've got 5 gallons of blood orange, cranberry, peach and cherry ready for the convention season. I still have to make some Skeeter Pee and some Pomegranate.

I remember once the comic strip "Crock" had one of the legionnaires say he had spent 50 cents on a gallon of wine..."because you have to pay more for the good stuff".

Back in the 70’s, maybe early 80’s, I lived in a town that I was fortunate to enroll in a few weeks long wine tasting class/seminar that culminated in all the Bordeaux First Growth wines. Crazy what some of the better Bordeaux wines costs now. So my daily drinker now is about $15 or so per bottle.

Don't think i have ever spent over 50. Typically under 25 back before the carb cutting.
Wife prefers sweet wine over dry. Would love to make a good sweet wine and have a glass with the wife on special occasions like the anniversary if I knew what I was doing.

I don't spend nothing for wine. Drink my own. I have a deal with a vintor who takes all the grapes and gives me back a third of the wine. I end up with about 12-13 cases a year.

That's a great deal you have there.

You need to come further south. We have 30 dime wine for $2.99 here in St. Louis. You drink until you run out of dimes or you can't hit the mailbox with the empty bottle, whichever comes first.

My wifes grandfather bought Carlo Rossi burgundy in the gallon jug....When I was their for dinner it was my job to keep his glass full, or I'd get a nudge, or "the look", lol I think it was 3.99 then....
Only time I buy wine now is if I have to attend a party, then it's either a local wine, or on sale New Zealand, somewhere between 16-20 bucks....

I have been buying Tisdale Pinot Noir for only $5.99 a bottle. It's a smooth, dry red wine very good with various types of spaghetti sauce and meat. I don't think you need to spend exorbitant money to get a good bottle of wine.
Shortest will ever written: Being of sound mind, I spent all the money.
