Once. For an untagged trap in the back of my car around 1980-81.I was in my Chevy chevette in a parking lot at a state game area getting ready to check some beaver traps when the game warden pulls up.After some small talk he looks thru the hatchback and sees a trap.He asks to see it so I get it and he says no tag.I says what difference does that make its in my vehicle, its not set.He says,it doesnt matter.$25 ticket.Later that same winter the same warden pulled a pole set of mine and took the trap (a no.14 jump ).He left a note in a baggie that he couldn't make out the name on the tag so he pulled it,if I wanted it back I could find it at the local state police post.Go to the post and nobody knew what I was talking about, they looked at me like I was crazy until I showed them the note. Was told to come back in a couple of days when a trooper that wasn't there that day might know something about it.Long story short I got the trap back. Why the warden took the trap in the first place, then took it to a state police post, was never explained.

While in the Air Force in 1983, I was trapping a beaver flowage on Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Michigan. Had a 330 set under the ice out away from the lodge near the feed bed. The trap was 23' feet from the lodge but was supposed to be a minimum of 25' from the lodge. I should not have estimated the distance as the game warden used a tape measure. My fault. Paid the fine of $30.00 total and learned a lesson.

Closest I have come to a hunting or trapping violation is parking ticket. Been checked by wardens dozens of times in my life. Was checked just this last fall while gun deer hunting. All my interactions with wardens are mostly positive.
So how did I get parking ticket. Was open day of duck season back in 1970 something?? I and a buddy went out on river like 1am in morning to get a spot. . Launched the boat at same land had used many times over the years. Parked in a spot at landing had used for many years. So around 8am in morning couple buddies came out to joint our group. Shooting didn't start until noon. Buddy say you know your Parked right in front of a no parking sign?? Im like what ?? wonder when they put that there? Well im not going back and move my truck and trailer. Most parking fines are $5 I will just pay dang Fine. That wasn't the smartest move. Dang landing is federal refuge landing. So their brand new no parking sign that was like 8 ft up in air. Cost me $75 dollars in stead of the $5 I figured it would be. I could have argued the ticket if I wanted to drive to Madison argue with Magistrate. Suck it up and mail the check. Funny part is I wasn't the only one got bite. They made couple grand that opening weekend. Made enough money to pay someone to lower the signs to eye level.

Not yet. Some things happen beyond our control, such as a beaver dams getting torn out without my knowledge, causing 330's to be high and dry. I had that happen a few times and luckily there wasn't a game warden there to see it.

Dang! I'm on Tman with a bunch of outlaws.
And I'm lilly white, because I have never been caught. If you are not breaking a law in the U.S., you probably are not doing anything.

I had trapped some beaver out for a landowner on his land. The beaver had two dams that were flooding his field. After I removed the beaver a friend of mine who worked as a blaster for a quarry company was blowing out the dams. I was with him to show him where the dams were. We had called the county's sheriff's department to let them know we would be blowing these dams on the property. After we blew the first dam a CO came flying down the road mad as heck asking us what we thought we were doing? We explained the situation and told him the landowner wanted the dams removed so his fields would dry out. We told him we had contacted the sheriff's department and informed them on what we would be doing. He said that wasn't good enough, he should have been informed.
I wanted to tell him if he had called the sheriff's office, they would have told him. But, I didn't want to push my luck, as he told us he could write us a ticket. But, in the future if a similar situation occurred, he said he would.

No but the funny thing is the old game warden that use to chase me around ended up being my co worker, we are great friends now, lol. He still claims he wasn't trying to catch me, we have a good discussion about it every year around the dinner table when we are working out of town together, lol. Co worker's enjoy our back and forth about the old days when we played game warden vs outlaw lol.

No tickets huntin, fishin, or trappin. In fact I had one WCO who loved tagging cats and could spare an hour every time I would get some tagged. In the next county, that WCO would give me and a buddy's phone numbers out to ppl having depreciation problems and issue permits (when needed) based upon what we would relay to him after a walk around.
Speakin of cranky, I'll mannered game wardens- anyone heard anything from Spots lately?

To this day, residents in the county I grew up in still cant believe DNR hired me...lol. But, once the decision was made to be a GW, I repented and will never go back...even though I'm now retired.
