I believe time has proven that trade imbalances are not a big deal. The money comes back in foreign investment in things like bonds, stocks and factories. Someone has been telling people that trade deficits are bad , but ignoring federal budget deficits.

This is false. Yes, there are high “quota tariffs” . Those tariffs have never been applied in practice. The USA has never gotten even really close to what are known as “fill rates” on dairy items. Now there are indeed policies in place that reduce the need for American dairy, and whether they are good or bad leaves room for debate for sure, but if you’re buying the rhetoric spouted about Canada charging you massive dairy tariffs , you’d rather just believe what you’re told than actually look up the facts. Either way , US dairy imports into Canada are 4 times higher now than they were in 2016.

If it's false, then the Canadian tariffs on dairy wouldn't be there and wouldn't be needed.

Fact is, nobody in Canada is going to pay the 200-300% tariffs. That's why they "have never been applied in practice".
