That does not bode well for the lithium battery plants being built in the U.S. If those claims are true, and it appears they are, plants under construction here will have to be remodeled. Assuming the technology is easily replicated.

Cuts the cost 40 percent….. but the consumer will NEVER see that! By the time the government gets done with regulations, the cost will have increased by more than 40%.

Maybe I could afford a new truck if it had these battery packs.

Cuts the cost 40 percent….. but the consumer will NEVER see that! I don't think most people realize how inexpensive many items have become. One day of work buys a decent .22. Two days of work buys a 60" TV, A week of work and you can buy a refrigerator. Consumer items are dirt cheap in comparison to the past, accounted for inflation.

Sodium-ion battery tech has been around for a while. It still has the disadvantage of having lower energy density compared to lithium. This means that the sodium-ion battery has to be larger and by nature of its components heavier to carry the equivalent storage capacity of lithium-ion and has a lower recharging cycle capacity. Not a significant disadvantage in stationary applications considering the cost advantage. Sodium-ion is a tech that still has many potentially advantages in mobile applications if you drive more than about 120 miles between charges. The tech has some favorable advantages over lithium as mentioned in the video.
For all of the above, batteries are only one part of the total energy usage equation; storage. EVs still have not provided a solution to energy creation/conversion, which is where the combustion engine shines, either as a stationary or mobile power plant.
