Fallon is considered the cat market right?
What other furs gain attention there?

Used to be a lot of coyotes too. I've never been there though.

$888 average is unreal. Must have been mostly Nevada cats.

Used to be basically 3 species. Cats, coyotes, grey fox. Now it is just cats. Less than 100 coyotes offered today - can’t understand why?? LOL

They will have another sale tomorrow (Sunday). A whole new batch of fur. Due to space and time constraints, they limit each day to about 600 cats plus other species.

As a general rule, trappers with “better “ cats usually sell on the second day. So Sunday could be interesting.

Usually Utah Trappers has the first “big” cat sale of the season in the western US. But this year their sale is in March. So Fallonis really the first. Montana’s sale is also this weekend, so will be interesting to see their numbers and which buyers went to which sale. I know George Kortum himself was in Nevada. That means his daughter most likely covered the Montana sale.

Now, before some one jumps down my throat about western fur sales - there have been 3 other trapper sales in the west this season before Fallon - Idaho Trappers, Upper Snake (SE Idaho) and Colorado. I just no not consider any of them to be “major cat sales”. Sorry - that is my opinion. And having been involved with western trappers fur sales since 1973, I am entitled to MY opinion.

Nancy, certainly you've been involved with Trapperman long enough to know we are all courteous, gentlemanly, and only would in the most subtle way ever question another members motives, intellect or general savvy when it comes to all things fur related.

Hope the optimism trickles down. Mink next? Great to see more species gain momentum. There is power in pricing, that adds industry viability. It’s exciting.

Thanks MJM, looks like pretty good prices on about everything but skunk (based on what people other places have been getting). I mean $23 for coyotes may not be good, but it is better than a lot of places averaged the last couple of years, even if grey fox sold for more than coyotes. wink

Carl, I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Nancy, since you were stating your opinion, I'll give mine. Fallon, the second Idaho (Glenns Ferry) sale, Prineville, Klamath Falls, and Utah are the big cat sales. You could probably throw New Mexico in there also. This is pretty early for a major cat sale, the season is still open in some of good cat producing areas, quite a few guys won't even have their cats put up yet (I just started yesterday). Even Idaho's sale is early this year.
