Why do some charge state sales tax and others do not.

I get it...if you purchase from an in-state supplier/business, but out of state purchases....some do....some don't.

Here you get charged , a lot, from any online or mail order from within, or out of state... Amazon, etc

Only way to save from sales tax is to take delivery out of state...and pay their tax unless they don't have any...

BUT...even if you do that, for anything that needs registering , there's a form to pay the tax anyway....unless it's a legitimate business expense for which you need another form, lol

We are required to collect sales tax in Pa. ( our home state ) and Wyoming currently. That is subject to change at any time. I assume the merchant that is being used sets up the required state tax collection statutes. PayPal and Ebay all have their tax collection guidelines set up on purchases.

They are supposed to hit a certain number of customers in a State before they need to charge internet taxes I bought a ebike and did not need to pay the sales tax because of that loophole. At least that’s what the guy told me I was buying it from.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

Bought a few thing from Montana and was charged sales tax. Have not run into any other internet sales tax that I can remember except Missouri of course

NY state beats up every state to become a tax collector for the state. A few years ago, the state collectors were going out of state to states that don't have sales tax on clothing and taking license plate number of the NYS cars and sending letters to the people saying they owe NYS sales tax on their purchases. You can't make this poop up!

Minnesota and Michigan collect for Georgia in trapping supplies.

Illinois does not.....on trapping supplies....anyway.

One might be surprised at how many smaller companies and do it your self outfits do have it !

As it's covered in the price of the purchase, most of the time and you never see it, although it is supposed to be visible
or notified in advance of purchase !

ETSY makes it convenient for vendors by charging the customer sales tax and increasing your asking price by that amount.

There is at least one trapping supply business that has lower prices than many others and also don't charge sales tax.

Funny story, Last year I was paying the Canadian outfitters wife for my bear license, I asked her "if there was any sales tax, you guys being the 51st state and all". That did not get the laugh I expected, quite the opposite.

Just the right amount of whelm.

The one thing I've noticed is that it's where you are located (home address) or shipping to. Here in MT I haven't been charged anything for sales tax as we don't have sales tax. But if I order something and ship it to NV its usually about 7%. Think it goes hand in hand of what state you live in.

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

When I’ve bought metal working equipment from lost creek machine in Illinois, he told me if I drove there and bought it he’d have to charge sales tax but if I bought it over the phone he didn’t.

That's odd, since Montana does not have sales tax.

On some sites, if the state you are from charges tax, you get charged that % tax. Gun Broker is an an example. Ebay also.

Same here, Many cities in WA have a local sales tax also and the tax is figured on location of purchase. Point of purchase is considered the mailing address so I have to figure the tax rate on each location.
