I'm limited to cage traps and dog proofs on this piece of property on dry land. I'm thinking about trying a couple cage traps up against the walls for mink and blocking them down.

Has anyone had much luck like this? Any recommendation for traps?

never tried cages but a mink definitely will inspect and run through any tunnel looking area so a cage covered in grass and debris will look pretty natural may want to put a piece of wood over the the cage trip pan to be even more natural

What about the tube trap that’s for squirrels? Would that work? Anyone ever have luck with mink with them?

I've only ever caught two mink, one was a chicken killer and I caught it in a tube trap covered with hay between the bails in a barn.

The old double door Havahart with the pan in the center will work. I believe they are 7X7" by 30" long......................the mike

I’ve caught a few mink in them. Positive set over holes as well as baited with one end covered in wire.

Be sure they are the WCS easy set traps. They have adjustable pan tension and can catch anything from weasels and flyers to other squirrels and mink. The original tubes require an elephant to trip them.

Back when I cage trapped in Washington this was my typical mink set. Create a nice dark hole by covering the trap with grass and any other debris you can find. All my cages were 7x7 ones I built. Throw in beaver, muskrat, carp or whatever you have. I added feathers in front of cages on occasion. Cages on mink were quite effective. [Linked Image]

Double doors set up like conin bears are supposed to be really good mink medicine if your wanted to you could build some pretty easy . Just colony traps with trigger rod and swim extra bobbles

This is cool. I’ve always wanted to catch a mink.

Dave Vinke of Washington State is one who has it figured out.
So intrigued was I , that I flew to trap with Dave on several occasions.
And he did it using Havahart traps, which many of you know, I consider JUNK !

* Dave Vinke is a member of Trapperman. May just use his last name IDK ?

Yep I did. I made a dozen of them quite a few years back. They caught quite a few marten, mink and muskrats.
