This is a first for me. Proud of the no bs beaver Xtreme for hanging on. Took a couple days to catch this big female. She’d have been sure enough educated if the trap didn’t hold

Nice catch! I'll take luck when it comes my way.

You are supposed to place the trap closer to the bank

I wonder if there will be enough coffee and middle fingers to make it through the day.

Another good reason to NOT use offset jawed beaver traps.

Good job by the trap and a catch is a catch in my eyes

So anyone have an explanation of how tail catches happen?

Is it just a freak thing or is there a lesson to be learned when you make a tail catch?

I done it a few times with a MB 750. A catch is a catch. All mine like that was in a castor mound set. Just assume it was the way the beaver worked the castor mound. Only ever had it occur in a castor mound set and only a few times over the years

So that’s the second catch in that trap. I made a castor mound near their lodge and caught a kit in that trap the first night but the beavers made their own castor mound beside my castor mound that night.

All I can figure is that beaver was backing up in reverse to mark that castor mound they made and the tail somehow set the trap off. Or the beaver approached from the side, marked the castor mound, and I caught her leaving. Who knows, I’ll take it!
