I'm glad it usually impacts the front of the skunks very few have it past the shoulders did have one with a messed up tail the other day. This makes 2 in a row with this skin condition from the same old farm place. Picked up another pair of coons one decent one one was very red even the tail was red.

Thinking maybe its psoriasis I come across this from time to time no real mange issues in this area.

I have seen plenty with it in the spring. Some way worse then that. Some even have scabs.

I have in the past, but it's been year's now since I've seen it.
I always thought it was fleas, and skunks scratches it.
The one's that had it always had fleas and ticks.

I caught one yesterday that looked like that.

The skin is ridiculous thick almost shoe leather tough, I save the skulls it’s a workout getting through the hides.

Could it be damage from aggressive biting and holding on during breeding?

Psoriasis? You need to get them some cordizone or medicated shampoo with a coal tar base. Will fix them right up!

I usually get 1 or 2 per year like that but not quite that big of a spot. Always on the head/neck. I think I only had 1 out of 40 this year

I was just talking to my buddy this morning about this exact same thing . Seems to happen around breeding season .

That scaring must of happened over time as thick as it is, I will try to get a photo of how thick it actually is.

Always thought it was from fighting during breeding season. Look at the ones that have it and see if they are all males.
