First of all, your message inbox is full. Secondly, I have a question on your tanning method. So far it is going extremely well and the results thus far are awesome. Hides are just about completely dry and ready for your step of washing any tanning oil off the fur side with Dawn soap and water. My question is, are you are fully submerging the tanned pelts to wash them, as opposed to just washing the fur side with soapy water? Then board and dry after washing and rinsing? I am assuming fully submerging doesn't have a negative effect on the tan? Thanks in advance.

If you get an answer to this, I'd like to hear it. I'll use the info to update the little instruction pamphlet I put together from Boco's original posts about tanning.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

If you spray the fur with a little mineral spirits and tumble it in cob grit dampened a little with water it will clean up the fur.
If you dont want to tumble it you can do one skin by hand. Lightly spray the fur with mineral spirits(lamp oil) and rub it in,then rub in some corn meal then brush and shake out. This should clean up any residual tanning oil in the fur.The mineral spirits dissolve the oils and the cornmeal takes it away.
Same as a tumbler.
I use a dryer as a tumbler,I just put the skin and media in a heavy garbage bag,tie it,,then put that in a canvas bag and tie that then tumble for 20 minutes in the dryer with NO HEAT.
