My buddy hit a deer on his way home from work last Thursday. He kept it on ice until Sunday when we got a chance to butcher it. He donated one of the back straps to me for helping him out.

Had it for supper tonight along with some mushrooms and onions.

That looks good. I believe I'm going to copy you tonight, but mine won't be Chevy tendered.

I have said it many times before. Doug you sure know how to eat. smile You could get a job as a chef if you got the urge too.

A buddy dropped off a smoked piece of tenderloin today with an 8 oz. jar of home made maple syrup. I just finished that filet piece for dinner. He will make a woman a good wife one day.

It was a Ford Edge Big Sam. This was the third deer he hit with that car in the last couple of years. He works a weird shift and he’s usually coming home between midnight and 3 AM, prime time for deer activity.

It was a nice fat doe with very little damage. I commented to him about how he is getting good at killing them with his Ford and not wasting much meat. Very little damage to the Edge as well.

The last one he hit partially tore the bumper cover off and he put a MAGA sticker across it to hold it on. LOL I asked him if he needed another one after he hit this deer.

We butchered it in my unfinished butcher shop/fur shed. That’s the fifth one we’ve done in there. I guess I better get on the ball and get it finished.

LOL

Smoked tenderloin sounds interesting Bob, never had it, but I’d try it. The wife has been after me to build us a smoker ever since I paid an outrageous price for some smoked summer sausage at a local butcher. I have zero experience smoking anything, but I’m kind of interested in doing it.

Lugnut, do you change the recipe a bit when Ford tenderized? I've only ate after a Chevy or Buick did the tenderizing. Lol
Looks like you're going to have a heck of a nice place for cutting up critters.

No change Big Sam, I can’t notice any difference between the Ford killed deer and the ones I’ve hit with my GMC and Chevrolet work trucks.

Heck no, saves on ammo too! LOL

My buddy only got one deer this season and he was pretty bummed about it. I ask him several times if he was sure the collision was unavoidable. grin

Atta boy! Looks good.

I was in college before I realized other folks didnt have the sheriff patrol call their dad when a deer got hit that wasn't too bad. grin

We grew up skinning deer all times of the year.

Talked to neighborhood friends later in life that were like "you guys always had a dead deer in your garage". Didn't seem weird to us.

Lugnut are you putting a cooler in your butcher shop? I got my shop done this fall with the walk in cooler attached. Worked great. Can advise on cheap way to build cooler and keep it cool. Kept temp at 37 during the first week of PA archery season.

I've often thought about having a walk-in cooler and my buddy wants me to get one. I love aging deer 7-10 days but it can sometimes be difficult to get the weather/temperature to cooperate. Too warm in the early seasons and too cold in the late seasons.

I'm all ears, advise away.
