Remember how good this place was 25 years ago Jackie? Unbelievable, an amazing place for trappers. Some of the very best trappers in the country. How lucky we were to have been a part of it.

Much of the division is because of advertising. News services make ad revenue by keeping viewers watching. Angry and upset people watch more.

The algorithms used by social media sites have escalated the problem. They can very accurately profile people, so they know exactly what to show people to keep them on the site. They record huge amounts of data on the users. Even a slight pause while scrolling is noted. The users are the product sold to the advertisers.

AI, as it advances, is going to make the polarization much worse.

Liberals are easier to manipulate than conservatives because the logic and fear portions of their brains are less active and the emotional centers are more so. This is why they are more destructive. Sadly, conservatives are not immune from being manipulated too.

People should look at primary sources as much as possible, rather than short clips, if they want to be manipulated less.

Everyone can be manipulated because we readily agree with and gravitate to what we want to hear. Pretty soon it doesn't matter if what we are hearing is true or not, as long as it fits the narrative we believe it. Human nature, I guess.

Agree. And if you remove the differing opinions, who will people have to argue with? If someone’s opinion bothers you a lot, just ignore them. It’s not your patriotic duty to scuffle with them on Internet forums.

That's messed up.

Social media has given everyone a soapbox to broadcast their life & opinions.
Half of people out there are of below average intelligence, and along with that are of limited education and critical thinking skills.
They are able to shout loudly though.
Self reflection is not a strong attribute among this group.

We seemed pretty divided back then Boss, i recall a group that ran off and started a reform party, that's pretty divided. Back and forth on here was pretty much daily, remember Wiley E? Mr. copy/paste expert himself. You got tired of the 'nastiness' as you called it and started deleted threads and soon it wasn't worth the effort to post a reply cause the whole post was going to go poof so most left or went into lurker mode.

Now they have turned this satire post of mine into a political thread, lol.

I think it helped to have antis trying to screw with the site years ago, all of us universally dislike antis
