Population of crows has plummeted here. Many bird species are seemingly in population free fall, barn swallows, red wing black birds, hawks.

Not many crows around here for a few years now. Use to see endless flocks of them in years past and hear them all day. Thats exactly what Im experiencing.

I haven't seen any crows here yet either. We usually have a small rookery of 5 to 8 nests on the back of my property. The number has been going down the last few years. There's been as many as 40 crows in that murder. The nests are in very thorny honey locust trees. I like crows and will no longer shoot them.
Keith Im going to do a 20 mile loop some day this week with the sole purpose of doing bird inventory.

I mentioned a change 3 years ago on here. They said I was a bird brain lol.
One, that jumps out. Carolina Wrens instead of House Wrens.
Woodpeckers seem fine, Jays and Cards too.
If a cycle it is a 30 or more yr cycle.

Keith Im going to do a 20 mile loop some day this week with the sole purpose of doing bird inventory. I did this last year. It used to be common for powerlines to be heavy with barn swallows, I remember thousands of birds on the spans. I drove an 80 mile loop last summer and counted 12 birds.

The crow population here in southeast PA seems stable and there are good numbers around. I see or hear them most days. There did seem to be many more decades ago. I remember several large rookeries in a twenty mile radius around home. I don't see that anymore.
I have noticed a few ravens starting about three or four years ago. I never saw them around here before that. Raven's are common around my camp in north central PA.
Eh...wot?

Not much for crow action around here as in hte past, been that way for a while. We now have more turkey buzzards instead.
The winters here have been mostly open and dry in three of the last four.
I don't think anyone in this part of South Dakota cares if there are less crows or not.

An old guy that shot crows for bounty showed me a crow flyway. Later in life I transferred his knowledge to topo map. This "route" is used by many including the latest, bald eagles.
The old guy had an R870 with the most wear I have ever seen.

They eat turkey eggs. I found a bunch last spring that were eaten by crows. I'm sure they eat a lot of songbird eggs, too. I've heard they also do a lot of damage to crops

Before coated seed and tight wrap husks, crows caused big $ damage to corn.
Now it's the turkeys walking down the rows plucking the sprouts. But that's different cause they are majestic trophies.
Plant large amounts of untreated seed you will see this.
