I have not so much as looked on here in a year or two . But People I got to know on here over the years I am still in touch with and they, like me have left tis place , because at the end of the day, we are down to earth people and yes we swear at times and have opinions on political stuff and I just talking for myself put in the odd 3 letter word in my posts here and there. It just saddens me that the old guard as it where is leaving this site , but still keeps in touch with me ...... Paul .... please think about what you are doing to the folks that are the old family. I only write this because after 26 years as a happy member of this place before I left a couple of years ago because of your "new rules " and a bunch of good folks that did the same ........ well have a think ..... and if you don't want to put it out there....... Paul, I know you have my number

You're a good man and have been missed on here. Hope things are well with you.
Got a photo from a speeding camera in the mail. I immediately sent it back - way too expensive and really poor quality.

Learch, Michael is directly of the old German stock...tough man , who gets things done. I've known not a few Germans like this, and to a person, they seem gruff , though they mean well and are simply direct . Women are this way too. I grew up rather liking that way of communication. Especially when they are directly from the homeland. Legal immigrants who have helped to make our country good and strong. Many good inventions. When I was young, I thought my friends were upset at me ! They always explained of course not , thats just the way they communicated. Michael is the same. He speaks directly , even in that neat German accent . He means well . The fact that he is here again shows his extension of friendship.

German & the Dutch are like that, direct and straight to business. They also appreciate it right back, I like that. Sometimes when I say something sarcastic with a serious tone, they give me some puzzled looks, but eventually I can get them to crack a smile.

One summer I spent the whole season with several families of Germans , in platform tents in the British West Indies . Straight from the motherland. I loved them. They were all that way....gruff....well considering the hard life they came from , I loved hearing their stories. If you ever need help they will rescue you immediately...give you the shirt off their back, so to speak. Very generous people , and brilliant in their talents and abilities. Michael is just that way.

Yes sir, Learch. When they prepare good foods from their homeland for you, and lots of it, that makes fast friendships too I'd like to have updates on Michael's gardens and woodland acres . If he still has the boathouse . Miss his videos he used to make for us all here . That's a hint, Michael !

Sharon, your right. Michael has done a couple of projects for me and they turned out great. He drives right by my house on his way to the coast for boat work he does. Picks things up at a meeting place and when done, we meet back up. First class workmanship. German folks are different then most. No bs to the point. My boss(immigrated from Germany) i had back in the early 2000's was like that. We didnt get along well before he made supervisor and then we clicked and turned out to be one of the best bosses I had. He would assign me a project and turn me loose. His standards and mine were the same. Get it right the first time. Scuba is no different. I consider him a friend even though we haven't spoken a awhile.

You have to be pretty thin skinned to be bothered by comments from people you've never met and likely never will. When you join this site it's pretty obvious your postings will be watched and removed if you violate the rules. You can get removed if you go far enough. being "thin skinned" was never the issue for those who left...it was the threat of being permanently banned when OTHER members were too thin skinned or wimpy to fend for themselves without the protection of the moderators or admin. look, I "Get it"...Paul's house, Paul's rules. and that's that. but the forum has suffered because of the whiny complainers who couldn't stand a different viewpoint, strongly expressed.

You have to be pretty thin skinned to be bothered by comments from people you've never met and likely never will. Zim and I have met and know personally a couple hundred people we first met on this site. They are not inconsequential. We have never met Scuba in person (yet), but have a great deal of respect for his knowledge and skills. Glad you're here, Scuba.

Seems like a complicated situation without any standard being consistently maintained and then you have obviously disturbed people posting hateful things about the country, the president and other members. It almost seems like some people are happy to see the country have problems so they can blame it on the president. It is really a shame. God Bless the USA and our president.

in short, the ones who left (and/or stopped posting) tired of typing out long replies on an active thread, only to have the whole thread deleted...most times, without a reason given. I think most of the time it is pretty clear why a thread goes poof. First, can you really expect a mod to spend an hour deleting out 15 individual posts as opposed to just axing the entire thread? I'm gonna use BC's post as an example... it apparently was recently deleted... the one about oil prices and the market. His initial post mentioned that the DOW and S&P were down for the year.... that oil was up, and that it looked like the market could be in for rocky day on Monday... now... all of that was true... DOW and S&P ARE down year to date, oil WAS up, and Sunday night futures indicated Monday COULD be a rocky day in the markets. He concluded his initial post by asking for the opinion of the man on here that knows more about the markets than probably anyone else. So, what exactly was wrong with any of that? But what followed was several pages of replies calling BC a troll and saying he had TDS....as well as some bashing the President...... interspersed with a few people actually replying with informative, well thought out replies. You don't have to like what a person says or even like the person, but can we really not reply with cognizant, constructive replies without resorting to name calling and personal attacks? Now, in order to salvage that post.... someone would have had to go through and delete the dozen or so posts bashing people in order to salvage half a dozen good posts. Who has time for all that?

"Scholars and observers worry that public debates in the United States are growing increasingly uncivil. Politicians attack their opponents, partisans report unprecedented hostility toward opposition-party supporters (see Iyengar et al., 2019), and partisan media describe the opposing party as Nazis or Communists (Berry and Sobieraj, 2013) and feature “in your face” debates (Mutz and Reeves, 2005). Concerns with incivility often pertain to the Internet. Incivility is pervasive in online communities (Reader, 2012). In 2018, 84% of Americans reported having experienced incivility online, and those who did encountered it roughly 11 times a week (KRC Research, 2018). These encounters can have negative effects. For example, the use of and exposure to incivility generates anger, anxiety, or mental distress, and can lead to aggression (Gervais, 2015) and hostile communication (Groshek and Cutino, 2016). In addition, incivility can drive users away from online discussions and lead to general dissatisfaction with public discourse (Anderson, et al., 2014; Bauman, et al., 2013; Moor, et al., 2010; Ransbotham, et al., 2016)."
Paul stated the problem.

Can we have moderator elections? Have a primary and then elections just like for politicians? Candidates can promise to limit deletions or whatever they want to lie ab........I mean do? It could be just like the real world!! LOL at this point do ya think anyone would even wanna run? The trapper’s life isn’t a poor man’s life. A good trapline fills the trapper’s shed and his fur stretcher besides. Honest steel and early mornings have put meat in the skillet, hides on the boards, and gasoline in the pickup. Trapper’s perseverance has lengthened the line and strengthened the purse, quieted empty cupboards, and put the proverbial coon on the stretcher. And a full fur check in the mailbox, to boot. Vote Jeremy Savell for Deputy Moderator. Keith

in short, the ones who left (and/or stopped posting) tired of typing out long replies on an active thread, only to have the whole thread deleted...most times, without a reason given. There are 5-10 guys on TMan who are devout worshipers of the current administration; unemployed or underemployed--some on welfare; internet forums are their primary hobby--if not their only hobby; no friends other than their internet friends; and, who cannot wait to see my posts--because calling me a troll, talking about my day job or some other boring nonsense gives them something to do. As for the thread about the stock market--most of the people who posted are not even in the market. I don't think White17 ever had a chance to weight in (I agree, he is the most knowledgeable on TMan). Keeping this anonymous so as not to flame anyone and keeping it non-political.

I would bet my pickup that the attacker is not meaningfully in the stock market--yet he derailed the stock market thread. White17 is a good dude. A huge loss if he leaves.

I remember him being surrounded by near-pet pelicans where he used to live. Scuba, I'll have to look at the link Marty posted and see what kind of projects you've been working on!

Michael. The wind picked up a little and the chimes that Jonathan ( Tman's beloved photographer) gave me caught my eye. There's a small plastic lid attached to the bottom , with very old turkey feathers stuck into the center, to help catch the breeze and make them sound their lovely lower monk temple like cords. The feathers, as you can see , are old, worn and ratty. I thought of your lovely turkeys in your video ...and the idea hit me. Thinking how perfect in colours your turkey's tail feathers look,I would like to offer you a mountain man type trade. When they molt , I'd love a few of those tail feathers . I like them both, the white tailed one and the light beige tail. They look so nice together in such good contrast . In trade, I'll find something nice in my art box for you. If you'd like to do this, just shoot me a pm when the kids molt and you're ready. Below is a shot of how ratty the feathers look now. Some from your feathered crew would be gorgeous. And catch the wind again. Many thanks for your consideration to this matter.... ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-20139-287900-img_0906.jpg)

So Scuba, do you miss the pelicans where you live now? I do miss them and the great grit and blue heron that used to come inside to watch TV with me. But with our birds here . 3 Turkeys, 5 geese and 30 chickens ... they keep me busy enough. Not to mention the 4 dogs that are constantly around my feet and having to turn them into the guardians for our feathered friends https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_MNRRLAbNg

I planted about an acre of sunflowers last year and I think I had every goldfinch from Tennessee here at one point. Johnathan would have had a ball with his camera here on my patch I thought then . When I drove past that bit with the tractor there where clouds of goldfinches taking to the air..... I'll try that again this year

This site has taken on a persona, a persona that reflects Trapper Talk directly and for the most part it's beautiful. The archives here are full of knowledge freely given, stories shared and pictures gazed upon with awe.
There have been and are a few characters throughout the years, always tolerated to various degrees and they gave this place life, they were the salt that brought out the flavor, occasionally it got a bit to salty but for the most part the chefs kept it under control.
Take out all the salt and it's bland and bland things are left to go stale and stale things get thrown out.
If Trapper talk gets stale the rest of the site will follow and eventually it will be thrown out, with it goes all the knowledge and beauty it contains. The world will go on mostly unaffected, Johnathan's pictures will disappear, Gulos stories and knowledge will be limited to what he published, when a kid searches "weasel trapping" they'll find something, maybe not a step by step guide with pictures but I suppose they'll make due.
So it goes.

I couldn't remember my old account or it had been lost to a crash so I ended up with this one then. I was just a kid when nightwish was posting Bigfoot stories and BuckNE was arguing over Nuclear power and everything else. I partially credit this site for my ability to convey my thoughts into words in a persuasive manner
