My wife and I have always wanted to attend the balloon festival in October. Just starting to research it now. It looks like she wants to stay in a B&B. I’m okay with that. My sister suggested staying in the Old Town area as there’s lots to do (shopping, museums, shopping, eating and more shopping). I can do that too. It’s getting out to and back from the balloon launch area that has me mystified.

We’re both in our mid-70s. She doesn’t walk far because of a degenerative hip condition. Outside of driving myself, I’ll assume there are buses and the like that can get you out there and back. But I’m at a loss right now.

What have you experienced for the Albuquerque area and the balloon festival?

Never too old to learn

Its pretty cool. They take off at dawn. Fill the sky.

Albuquerque is a very high crime city. Stay aware. If you can find one book a room in a Hotel. Avoid motels.

Worth seeing at least once in your life. Do not stay near Old Town. City offers park and ride options during the festival. You can park in safe areas and city bus will take you to the festival grounds and bring you back. Inexpensive and beats fighting the traffic which can even back up the Interstate. This is what we did when out of state relatives came to see the balloons.

Its well worth seeing. Just need to be aware. Use some common sense. Dont leave anything in vehicles, keep them locked. That kind of thing.

We didn’t think a post about New Mexico would be trapping related. It’s banned on most public land and tightly regulated.
