My girlfriend is having problems with her well/pump. She will lose pressure. The pressure tank is full of air and you can hear the pump pumping continuously and at the same time no water. This time of year there is no way the well is dry. It has happened three times and we have turned the pump off over night and when it resumed pumping it seemed like there was air came out of the faucet and then she had water pressure. Three times in the last couple months. Anybody got any ideas what the problem might be.

Might be a faulty foot valve

Only dealt with it once here. But it sounds like a ruptured bladder in the pressure tank. Knock on it if it is kind of a dull thud it is full of water and not air. G.

I agree with Ghost8, sounds like a ruptured bladder in the pressure tank.

Likely a ruptured bladder like said, possibly also with a faulty one way valve in the line.

What color is the tank and is it heavy?
Pump submersible or shallow well?
Pressure gauge readings?
GF have sisters?

Pressure tanks can go bad and bleed internally. I have had to change mine several times over the years. Find out how old hers is and how bad is her water there?

Pressure tanks are not waterlogged. When there is no pressure they are full of air.

Shut the power off to the well then open the valve on the pressure tank and let it empty then check your air valve to see what kind of pressure you have in your bladder in the tank should have around 35psi.if your pump keeps running you have more problems then a bad bladder.your pressure switch could be bad.

When my bladder went bad I got water out of the air check stem.

If it isn't the bladder, I would think footvalve or switch. May also be a pinhole in the line.

Depending on if it’s submersible or jet, if it’s submersible is it variable speed, could be a valve, bad pump, or controller.

With a little more info I change my answer to a valve "IF" when you say the tank is full of air when pressure is off, the pump is turned off. This would let the water in the pressure tank siphon back into the well. The pressure tank would fill with air and come out the taps when the well pump is turned back on. G.

Only happens intermittently. She loses water pressure. In pump house you can hear pump working, pumps continuously, pressure tanks full of air but zero or close to zero water pressure at tank. Turn the pump off and turn on, still no water pressure but let it sit at off overnight, water pressure pumps up and everything fine until the next time it happens which could be days or could be weeks. Submersible pump, feeds two residences but low water usage. No water pressure even when pump is running.
