Depends on if your selling calfs or buying them.

Won't even be noticed, they have plenty of capacity at other plants

I saved a bull of my own just incase bull prices go crazy this spring. I can't pay 10k for a bull and feel good about it

I bought Porterhouse steaks last week on sale for $6.79 a pound. Paid $8.99 for New York strips yesterday.

Your steaks probably had a boat ride from Argentina

Just the right amount of whelm.

If you’re going to pay better than 10k for average breeder bulls it may be time to look into buying semen.

Great point I've got a neighbor that has been using AI on his cows for a long time.takes the embryos out of his best cows and implants them in the others he has gotten a very good herd of cows and bulls some of which he sell doing it that way.

What's your protocol for AI? We've had dismal success and moved away from it, I would be happy at 60%

I have no experience with AI process. What variables keep success below 60%?

Heifers get seeders for 3 weeks I believe then lute shot cows are lute shot and seeder for like 10 day then lute shot again. Timing and detecting the heat properly is the most influential part, then maybe the tech depositing it properly. Bulls are better at both and instead of one deposit they make multiple of a longer window.

Buddy of mine bred dairies for years and said 30% was doing good. And that was breeding of natural heats which is the best

Son in law and daughter bought 20 head of heifers with their first calf on them and bred back for $5400 a pair.
Doesn’t take many calves to pay for them.
They’ve got 100 cows and both work full time. Good kids. Got mighty lucky with them.

Here 4000 a pair is about what they’re bringing here, the JBS thing will just move cattle to other kill plants, dairies are keeping cows longer and putting up with less milk because the calf will make up for it, I can remember when Holstein bull calves were killed because they couldn’t give them away and now they’re over 1000 dollars per head.

From those who know nothing about cattle but are still curious, can you tell us what those numbers mean?

Gotta find a way, a better way, I'd better wait

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you
