At Marysville KS sale barn last week. In. Sane.
Some ranchers near Valentine sold their 1000 head of cows at $4000 per and rented the ranch out.

Cows are alot of work. Alot of producers are plowing up pastures and growing rowcrops. Take the winters off. Except this winter theyve been able to apply anhydrous and disc all winter.

The strike at JBS in Colorado isn't going to help either.

Market leverage. They will get the fat cattle killed when they are ready, they are just using that to get the prices down where they want them.

I bet those $6000 pairs probably had $2500 calves at their side and probably 100 days bred. I dont really think the cow market is just completely out of line compared to where the calf and feeder market is. Just a little sobering when you have to right the check to buy them.

Like everything else, sell at your price, and some people like the government or arm candy women, just spend like there's no tomorrow!

Alot of hay land has been put to canola and wheat in the past decade around here. Cows are a lot of work, my dad got out of cattle when I was in high school.

Same here, I took my Amish neighbor a few weeks ago e. His calves (Guernsey cross) were a week or two old just enough to be frisky and getting around good. His average was $1325.

Anyone watch Sonne Farms on Utube ? There in South Dakota. A cow calf type operation plus feeding to almost finished cattle. The father sure seems like he knows what he's doing. I used to feed cattle all the way to finished weight. Brought them in at 5 to 6 hundred pounds and pour the feed to them. Made decent money but nothing like now. And yess, it was work but it was honest work.

2 years ago a load of 350 pound calves cost us around $80,000. We got 4 loads in last week that cost $240,000 a load. It’s not a good situation. I saw breed heifers bring $5200 a couple weeks ago
