Does no one ever catch these anymore? Never see them on fur sales, etc. Hadn't thought of them till my niece who is vacationing in Mexico sent me a video a second ago of a Mundi walking around on their patio looking for food.

Good point….. I was wondering this myself.
Although they don’t live in my neighborhood … I’ve always thought about buying one for a taxidermy project

Use to see them in trapping article's from the western trappers. Bobcats worth 3 grand seem to be the only thing those guys catch these days, lol.

They was a good population of ringtails in central TX when I trapped there. I never set specifically for them though. All mine were caught in sets for greys, cats and coyotes.
Pretty neat little critter. though. And full of fight when you approach them in a trap.
If I trapped there again, I would target them with boxes and 160 traps. They bring decent money on some auctions and taxidermy trade.

The NMTA sold 4, $46$ 28 $32.50 avg. There are a few where I trap but there are also a few marten so I try to stay away from them.

I picked one up, (road kill), when I was in Arizona about 25 years ago. Skinned it out and sent it off to Moyles. I still have that wall hanger today.
There was 8 or 10 at the Klamath Falls sale Friday. Not sure what they sold for, but you can find it on the thread posted on here somewhere for the Oregon trapping sale results.

Just doing what I want now.

Tom you telling me there is marten in New Mexico? Now my brother is texting me trying to get me to talk some sense into his daughter before she gets bit by a koati mundi! I guess all of those things moved to Mexico! I don't know anything about them, i imagine they are aggressive like a coon?????????????????

Few marten in northern mountains of NM just south of Colorado line. Totally protected from legal trapping or hunting. Arizona is only state that allows coatimundi to be legally harvested and limited to one per license year. Lots here in SW NM but no season. NMDW talked about a possible season about 5 years ago but antis scared them so they backed off and won't even discuss it anymore. Common for them to be in fairly large groups. Ringtails pretty common and best taken in conibear boxes. I use 160s and sell them all into the taxidermy trade. Just freeze and ship and shipping is reimbursed.

J, saw a coati in Mexico a few years back...cool looking critter coon face foxy tail. It was garbage can hunting and had its head all the way in the can. I lip squeaked and it popped right out. We walked towards it and it climbed tree and looked down. Cool sight.

I was in Mexico in February. Hiked to a mountain top vista, dude left his backpack on a rock and took a stroll. Critter came out and stole his bananas, local chased the critter off. 2 minutes later he came back for the whole pack. Local guy a coati did a tug a war. Local won and hollered at the kid for leaving his pack. ( think her chewed him out by his tone, it was in Spanish lol)

I got a couple pics [pine marten] on a trail camera once, left out of the area----I don't want the warden babysitting me! Caught two Ringtails in my career not many right here but a few miles away quite a few.

There was a disease of some kind came thru central Texas in the late 70's-early 80's that wiped out our ring tail cat population and it has never fecovered

When in NM had a very good market for ring tails. Small critters, BIG attitude. Good thing they don't weigh 20lbs

I was down in Belize several years ago and they were a common sight. Locals didn't know anything about trapping, but there were several hound hunters in the community we were at. Hunted coon and coati mundi with them, no one talked openly about jaguar hunting, but from comments suspect they did and kept it quiet. We were a good ways out in the country and it was quite an interesting trip. Was amazed to see an english hound tied up behind a house and that got the conversation going..
