As bull prices have gotten higher I've collect a few higher end cows, these are cows I AI to try and produce my own bulls from.

They were two wild Brahman calves which over the years obviously it's gone to Angus with a few Charolais. Our little operation probably has some of the tamest cows I've seen, sometimes I feel like they're pets. I mentioned getting out of them this year and his response was why? They're the highest they've ever been, to which my reply was why not? He enjoys it I suppose but he's nearly 73 years old and has somewhere around 100 pair with a few bulls. He still raises them on his own other than a couple drives a year between feedlot/stalks and feedlot/pasture. That's a lot of work for one man and I respect that.

We were actually moving half of them off a 1/4 of stalks to the feedlot a couple weeks ago and lost one calve as he ran into the trees, one of the other guys helping piled right in behind him and said can't let that $1000 bill get away....I laughed. He wasn't kidding.

Good to see u haven't forgot about us grin

I couldn't forget about the trapperman family, I do lurk and read here and there. Still putting the hurt on the predators just without steel currently although I still have a shed full of traps. Someday I'll find the time and ambition to give it a go. Have one boy hitting 11 years old and another just about a year old. Will have to keep the tradition alive.

Simmental or Sim/Angus and a Charolais.[/quote]

My BIL raises Simmental and Sim/Angus. He had his bull sale 1st week in March at San Saba , TX. It was the Cattlemen's Kind Bull sale, videos online.
He also raises females.

How to say I am a farmer/rancher without saying it, and likely only fellow ones understand and have a clue what you are talking about........
eek

I smiled when I read this as it related much to my time in North Dakota - not so much down here in Missouri anymore.......

[Linked Image] Wife's favorite cow had this today. I'd help load them for 5,000 she wouldn't take twice that. G.

My wife got the heated ride in the gator (her job was to pick up the calves that weren’t quite ready for the journey). Youngest was 3 days old. She snapped a few pics.

We are definately in a new "era" when roughly 40 head of beef cows in a corn field stubble are worth about 100K!!!
