Not sure which looks odder
A skinned beaver with the tail on
A clean skinned beaver
Or maybe the combination of the two

That's the only method I've ever known. Maybe it's a regional thing?
For starters, how do you sling them around wthout a tail to grab on to?

This is my thought. The tail is the handle after skinning

I use a hay hook on the pelvis bone to carry the carcass.

Funny story about leaving tails on beaver. One time back in the 80's i was skinning beavers when our local game warden drove up. Now I figured something was up so he comes over and watches me skin for a while, then walks over and closely examines the tread on my tires. Next asks if he can look in my freezer. No objection, go ahead if it pleases you sez I.

So finally he tells me what it's all about: Some trapper had dumped a whole bunch of beaver carcasses off a bridge into the river below. Illegal dumping. But that trapper cut all their tails off and he could see that was not my MO.

So there you go, leaving tails on kept me from being further investigated as an illegal carcass dumper. The looking in a trapper's freezer probably just seemed like a durn good idea for any game warden worth his salt; but I had nuthin' to hide.

BTW, those beaver picks are not from this season. I pulled a Savell and went back into my photo archives for those. grin

That first picture, Not that there's not enough beavers laying on the ground but it looks to be even more in the back of your truck. From someone who's only caught maybe 30 beavers in my lifetime, that's a amazing picture.

If I got enough pails, I gut the beaver, the rib cage is a nice handle……otherwise I use a meat hook. I’ve battled and swore like crazy trying to get a beaver into a small garbage bag for the freezer……. Slippery greasy buggers!……lol

Wicked haul BP! With beaver trapping, one has to learn to set for how many they feel like skinning….lol
