To each their own I guess.

In ten years of ownership, the watch is worth more than the truck the guy paid 70 grand for. Which is a better investment?

It is tough to haul beer in a watch.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I was looking at it purely from a time point of view.

From an investment point of view it looks like a fantastic idea on paper. With it being such a great idea for an investment, maybe some of you should buy a Rolex every month for retirement. Again, on paper, it looks very lucrative.

Now, how big is the market of buyers that will spend $100K on a watch versus cashing in on investments on a Roth or 401K or IRA or pension of some kind. I can cash in on those anytime. With a watch I will have to find either a buyer or an auction house and hope to get full "value" of the watch.

It's great in theory, just not practical to me. If I had a watch that was worth 10, 20 100K, I would NEVER wear it anywhere. So how would I be able to tel time? LOL!!!

How many lies will people believe before they realize their own idiocy?

Depends. Did the truck sit completely undriven in the garage for those ten years? Then the watch is. But if the truck was driven to transport the owner to and from a place of employment or to conduct business in which the owner was in able increase his wealth... then the truck is.

Yote, one can buy a truck for less than half of the 70,000 and do the same thing.

Well sure, but that wasn't what you asked. I would never pay 70k for a truck unless I won the lottery, lol.

Bowhunter27295. You bring up a good point.

Rolex monitors there site for an entire year. Determining how many people visit there site. Continuing to determine how many are actual buyers of there watches. Continue to cut the numbers in half. Once they determine how many people would actually buy a Rolex. They cut that number in half again. Keeping the demand high. Availability low.

From raw materials, machining, jewelers, to placing the watch in the box. Is all done in house.!!!!

The watch may increase with value but how much cash will you make with the truck,
That can easily exceed the increas in value of the watch. In addition you will need transportation regardless and the truck can provide transportation and income earning potential.

Just more than one way to look at it. Nothing wrong with buying a fancy watch its just not for everyone.

This thread is pretty funny. There's nothing wrong with buying an expensive watch. It is no different than buying a piece of artwork, or a diamond necklace, or a bar of silver or gold. Are there better investments? Absolutely. But if you like it, and can afford it, then go for it.

Exactly. Myself I believe I would rather have the expensive watch over gold. Seems to increase in value over time and is also functional and can bring the owner enjoyment being used. But im rough on things having a hard time keeping nice clothing without runing it so a high end watch would likely get beat up and loose value.

It may not be for me in my current life stage but could be some day.
