k snow OP trapper Joined: Oct 2009 east central WI	Got the ironwood (hop hornbeam) logs I cut a couple weeks ago all reduced to staves today. Peeled the bark, applied shellac to the outside (back, the bark side) and the ends. Then I kerf cut the logs and split the staves following the saw cuts. Kerf cutting really cuts down on waste from splitting. In all I ended up with a decent pile of staves. "in the midst of a savage wilderness to depend entirely upon their unassisted strength and hardihood"

Nessmuck trapper N Joined: Nov 2011 New Hampshire	Another craft...along with making fine black powder flintahs ....I wished I learned. Maybe in my next life. Keep us posted on the Bow making process It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.

Woodsloafer72 trapper Joined: Jun 2015 Minnesota	You ever make any straight from green stock to tillered bow? Works a lot easier green. Let dry about a month and retiller.
