Insider information: All pelts sold and prices nearly doubled at Saga Furs’ mink auction

Saga Furs’ mink auction, which began on 27 March, concluded today, 30 March. The first mink auction of the season was exceptionally successful. This applies to clearance rate, price increases, and the number of buyers, which exceeded 500.

“All the 3.1 million mink pelts on offer were sold. The average price level increased by 76%. Depending on the type, the price increase ranged from a minimum of 30% to as much as 180% compared to the June auction last year. The results exceeded even our boldest expectations and establish a foundation for a new price level,” says Saga Furs CEO Markus Gotthardt.

Ranch fur prices like just occurred at SAGA will have a significant impact on most wild fur for next season. This according to SAGA Furs, this was the biggest increase percentage wise, in fur prices they have ever seen in their 75+ years in the business as a fur auction house. Good news for wild fur producers! Now we get to see if the consumer can adjust to massive retail price increases. Everyone in the business with inventory just saw it's value go way up. Now, how to replace it and make money???

I think the consumer will buy without much concern. After all we are dealing with maybe 10-20% of the fur we had 12 years ago and that means the small minority of wealthy people won't have a problem bidding up the fur they want. We are a long way from getting our utility fur usage market back if we ever do.

I see kopenhagen is having a sale in Poland in July. I thought they were done? Would like to see NAFA reopen. Or someone in US.

American Mink Exchange

Rats should follow ranch mink prices.

I agree with with Dirt and Peeler. Big heavy winter rats with good underfur and a complete covering of guard hair have always been the go to when mink prices get really high. Now, where to find numbers of high quality mid-winter muskrats. I think we're on our way to $12-$15 dollar rats again.

We need 20 dollar rats to equal the value they had back when we got 15 dollars in 2013.

Or for that matter to equal the $4 rat from 1978.

I believe I was paying $6.25 in 1978 for clean 'rats that ran 75%XL/25%MS.
The Germans loved our "Fraser Valley" muskrats.

I got one of those a week or two ago also. Only a small fraction, and now the bank charges me $5 to deposit or cash a Canadian check.

You guys should have been selling at the trappers auction house not the ranchers.
You wouldnt still be waiting for your money.
