I have never liked a dishwasher, the mechanical variety that is. Even growing up mom and pops had one but it took way too much time to deal with. Plus, they say it is to sanitize the dishes. look at the drain line and it is very gross at best. dishes wont be sanitized once you remove them anyway.

Just my preference.

I do some of each
the plates stack nice in the dishwasher

cast iron and all knives get hand washed , anything large

my dishwasher is old and if I need to catch up from a backlog of dishes I end up washing more by hand than not.

when the kids were here it was 2 loads a day , now it's a load every 3 days

Hand wash since always...wife doesn't even want a dishwasher, not that there's room for one in my kitchen....
By the time you load the thing, especially if you pre rinse, we have them done...

Wife does the cooking and I do the pots and dishes. Love the dishwasher.

The kitchen appliance I don’t need is a garbage compactor. Had one 40 years ago. Didn’t much use it.

I’m fixn to find out which one I like best. Wife got a new hip Wednesday. I’ll be doing dishes and other such chores for a while. Got a half a load in dishwasher right now so I’m going to keep stuffing them in there till it’s full.

35 years ago when me & the wife got married she said, as a “city girl”, she had to have a house with a dishwasher and for me being a country boy never even seen one before!! Sure, we washed the knives, wine glasses, cast iron and any other delicate cookware or eating utensils. The wife washed & I dried. With the dishwasher the wife would not pre-wash anything but what I’d call a “hard rinse” before going into the dishwasher. That all changed a month or so ago when she came across Cascade Platinum dishwasher detergent. No more rinsing, even egg yolk doesn’t get a rub, she used to spray the stains in our tea & coffee cups because the dishwasher wouldn’t remove them. Not now by golly, all stains are gone!!! I highly recommend using a dishwasher AND use Cascade Platinum dishwasher detergent in it.

Waste of cupboard space. Especially in a small kitchen. My wife always pre washed the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. I never understood that. Either it washes the dishes or its just an expensive dish rinser that does a poor job of drying dishes. Now that I am the chief cook and bottle washer, (due to her dementia) they go in the dishwasher dirty. And they come out clean. Shocker.

The day we moved in to this house, my wife pointed at the dishwasher and told me it had to go. An hour later, it was in the barn. I put some shelves in for storage.
No microwave, either.

I think the pre wash deal is left over from the days when dishwashers sucked. We had to pre wash as kids and I never got why till ya threw a dirty one in the dishwasher.

These new dish washers would take the paint off a Buick if you could get it in there. you can chuck em in dirty now.

We had dishwashers for 20+ years, and recently replaced it with an extra cupboard. Don't miss it.

Well, being a new bachelor's, the last 6 months. I kept him all out of the sink. The first two month. And now I empty the dishwasher and fill it as needed...

I like to soak all the dishes and use a scrubber.Just to get the everything out of them before they go in the dishwasher

When it's just the wife and I, she cooks and I wash everything in the sink and let it air dry. The dishwasher only gets used when we have company.
