In my personal experience nobody messes with you if you look mean and appear poor. Including bears. Moose you can just run from. It is easy and convenient to pack mean with you everywhere you go.

Moose don't turn sharp, if you wait until they are close and then dodge around a tree they will charge right past. What's more interesting is when you're on a snowmachine on a four foot wide trail and they decide the trail is theirs.

Can't speak to flying with the pistol. But if you're going to bring one, bring one that is easy and comfortable for you to carry. A suboptimal gun that is on you is superior to a handcannon that is back in the rig or hotel room. Personally I carry most of the time, but back before I had light, comfortable, (and easily concealable if going where that is desired) options I found that carried much less frequently.

In Anchorage, I've had a truck stolen, someone tried to carjack my wife, people have tried to mug us twice. We always carry concealed in Anchorage, prevented everything but the truck being stolen, as we were in our village when it happened, it was waiting for this spring breakup to get put on the barge and shipped out to our village.

Unsure yet. Supposed to work with the resort and hopefully find a week between May and August, supposedly we’ll get an option to go next year if we can’t make something work. We get 1.5 days of halibut fishing…. And I wanna try to see all the critters. The whales, the bears and the moose. If I could pull off some river salmon that’d be sweet too. That’s probably asking for the moon, but I’m an optimist . Got a suggestion on the best time to shoot for?

Kinda leaning towards bringing my compact 45 XDm. I’ve got thousands of rounds through it with the only malfunctions coming from a worn out ejector and mag springs. Little bigger than the 9. Can run 255gr hardcasts in the woods and I’d be able to hide it well.

Forget the moose. You can see them in MN. Get out of Anchorage ASAP. Do all your fun down on the Kenai, or look into Seward.
Geese, cracker, my wife has 2 sons in Anchorage and they haven't had as much problems as you have!

We used to have moose. Liberals protecting the wolves have completely decimated our moose population. I’ve only seen one moose cow/calf pair and that was almost 15yrs ago in the boundary water canoe area. Our few elk are on a downward spiral as well….. I get your point though. I’ve seen moose in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
