Hello. Mossberg 935 turkey gun. Have never been impressed with the factory extra full choke. Thinking about getting a new choke. Not big in buying more than one and testing a bunch of shots and shells. Also not looking at spending a lot. Primos has a Tight WAD one on Amazon that is $32? Any thoughts? Thank you for your time.

I bought a gun that came with a caralson sp as a package turkey promo. I also was never much into patterning guns and experimenting with loads at least not in a shotgun. I mean it s a shot gun after all. Well decided to pattern that same gun to check out the choke tub and found the gun shot about a foot high and foot and a half left. Enough I was going to get rid of it until I noticed it was drilled and taped when I removed the plastic plugs. And put a red dot on it..

Then I read about the tss shot here and again thought people Paying 10$ a shot was crazy. But eventually broke down and picked up a few different loads to try and all I can say is I had no idea a 20g could shoot so small and evenly pattern.

The herters load from bass pro shot a little tighter than the federal load but the pattern was much more even. The federal load had larger spaces and shot bunched closer.

Down side is its easier to miss on close shots with such a tight shooting combo. So we use traditional #5s when it thick and shots are close.

I was impressed enough with that caralson choke I picked up another one for the kids 870. The kicker is they have different tightness if that not thr right descriptive term? I was not sure what to get but what I did get was an improvement over the rem factory full.

I get not wanting to wast time and money pattering shotguns. I was once that exact same way. Still dont like it but found out it has serious benefits. If im spending the time and effort to kill a bird deer ore anything it makes since to have your gun and load squared away. If you miss or wound them all the hunting effort and expense was a wast of time and money far exceeded the time and money to shoot our guns..

A few years back I was introduced to TSS ammo. I bought a box of 7/9 mix to shoot out of my 12 ga 3" 870 turkey gun. Took a couple gobblers with the factory extra full Rem choke, but not at extended range...just no flopping turkeys.

Decided to buy Carlson TSS choke......and

.....took the $$ hit and decided to paper it....Just to see what it was doing.

I was very impressed. Still shoot that ammo and choke to this day. No regrets...still impressed with the no flop and no shot to dig outta the breast meat.

50 yds with a rangefinder. Shotgun clamped in a BogPod. TSS 3" 12 ga 7/9 shot mix.

95 pellets in head neck. All pellets in an impressive circle for 50 yds range.

Nice art work Swamp. Same choke we are using but in 20g . I did bite down on a piece of tss shot though. Much worse than biting lead. So they dont always pass through at 45 yards or so or my boy shot that bird much further than he said. And thats highly possible.

I've got an old Under Taker on a Mossburg that shoots a lot of loads well but really likes about any 3" high brass #6s.

I have the same gun. Indian creek or a long beard xr will serve you well. If you shoot lead go with the LB 31/2 # 5, TSS I like the 3 1/2 Rouge #9. It doesn’t see a lot of action anymore. Went the 20ga route for now.

If you can find one of the old Mark Bansner Tru Glo chokes they are impressive, especially with the more course shot.

Good luck with a Primos Tightwad in both my 20 and 12, bought around $30 each a few years ago... shooting Remington TSS 9's in the 20 and Win Longbeard 3" 6's in the 12.

I have a Carlson's that I'm never going to use if you want to try it. If I was going to buy a new one, it would be a Sum Toy (got one of those too) or a Pure Gold which is what I use mostly

Mossberg 500 regular full choke. Federal Grand Slam 6 shot or Remington Nitro turkey in 5 shot. Haven't found a reason to change. Besides the best part of the game is getting them close. G. [Linked Image]

I don't know what brand my choke is, maybe Carlson's? It is a XX full I think.68 but might be.70. Regardless it is on a Mossberg 535 and with 3 1/2s it will upend turkeys out to 70 yards. I've shot 4s, 5s and 6s all at times, Remington Nitro, Winchester and Kent, whatever I could get, for about four years there I never seen a 3 1/2 in the store and I over the years I have bought whatever ammo was on the shelf. It seems to shoot them all well, I patterned it with one or two, but it has been a long time now. I did pattern it with some hand loaded 3 1/2 buckshot loads this year, and cutting the wood clear to the base produced much tighter patterns.

I have used a Primos Tight Wad choke in my Mossberg 835 for 10-12 years now, with 3 inch, Winchester High Velocity #5s. A turkey killing combination. Yes, buy one.

I prefer Indian Creek over Carsons. I have 2 different 835 Mossberg 12 guage. Different loads pattern different it's just a matter of findng a good load for the choke you have.

There's only one choke tube I will thread in the end of my fleet of turkey guns.

Indian Creek.

Gotta live up to the nickname...

Those of you with Mossberg 835s.....how do you like that "mild" recoil?
