Dirthole set.

2" hole.

Crowd trap up to the hole.

Grey fox in southern Georgia are no longer in good enough numbers to target. And they haven’t been for about 10 years. There are a few here and there, but there used to be 2 behind every bush.

I sure miss them.... frown

The Miranda double mouse hole fox set and all you need for backing is a clump of bunch grass and a jaw guard opposite the backing. Use the right stuff in the 2 holes and you’ll kill the entire family in a couple of nights. Dumber than stumps because they’re so aggressive. https://youtu.be/-jFJRLoGgw4?si=3fvKrJW6UAZrQ_U4

Dirt hole. Chunks of deer meat with beaver castor stirred in for bait Deadly

I think it’s more about location for grays. Here, I’ll set in open fields for red fox. If I target grays, move to the edges , or even better woods roads. Cutovers, brushy areas with roads or trails cut through them. Dirthole with backing, and powder river paste bait. Tuck that trap close to the hole.

Got one on camera the other day, picked up one in the road below the house yesterday to test for rabies. Far and few between now days thanks to the over populating coon's, distemper has about wiped them out.

We don’t have them like we did years ago either. I try to avoid them in the areas we do but usually end up with one in a coyote set. More than not I do release them in hopes of on day having a good population again. I would say the simple dirt hole set is my go to if I were after them.

I always had real good luck with a spring hole set for the grays. #2 CS and muskrat for bait. Not many grays around here anymore.

When I trapped central TX, i caught 70 greys that season. Mostly just in flat sets. Very little guiding at all. Also took quite a few at fence crawl unders
When I trapped the palo duro canyon a few years ago. The darn things would scatter everything around a set. So i had to go to using more blocking and guiding. Those greys were nothing like the ones in central TX.

There's some pockets of gray fox in Southern Illinois.

If I wanted to I could catch 150-200 real easy in some of our areas. Especially southern Oregon near the Cali border.

I know people who have seen them. I've never seen one here.
