Heard on the radio this morning that with all the commotion and fear regarding available gasoline, they are considering starting fracking for natural gas. I've often wondered why we haven't considered that as an alternative to gasoline? I've noticed the buses in our area are powered by natural gas. Better economically and less pollution supposedly.

Every time I laugh, cough, or sneeze, my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires.

LP or compressed natural gas produces about half the fuel economy

I toured a Waste Management landfill north of Denver. They capture methane to run three large generators plus their garbage collection trucks refill with methane overnight. Free fuel.

We have a puddle on an old dump site, in the middle of it is always burning a small fire.

I spent a month at this inventor's place in easter Ecuador (retired Navy pilot) and he collected chicken manure from his hens, dumped it in a 55 gal drum with chopped straw and water and with a refrigerator compressor, and other gizmos filled a tank with methane. With that he boiled water for his coffee every morning.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Oh,,,The irony of a refrigerator compressor, made to cool beer, wasting energy making coffee.

Over the years I've ran natural gas lines to to several gas stations and trucking outfits. The only way it's viable is through tax credits. It's a scam

I had a truck that could run mostly on ethanol. It's a little cheaper at the pump, but mileage suffers a lot. After a couple of tankfuls, I quit using it.

I imagine there would be a price point that it could become viable. But then that would mean that NG price would have to remain somewhat flat.

The propane I use to heat my house is sure a lot cheaper than the price of gasoline. We pre-buy our propane in the off season. Last summer it was around $1.79 a gallon.

Very true, wind energy is the same, but you’re saying tax money used isn’t free money?? wink

I don't have a problem with renewable energy but I have a major problem with subsidies from the government at our expense.

Wind energy is a good example though of how the free market can solve a problem. Data centers (good or bad is not the point here) need lots of electricity. The grid cannot provide enough. Wind and solar investment and development without subsidies will likely make up a large chunk of the gap.

Renewable energy subsidies go way back to the 70's. I had to make up a proposal to get one back in 1991. It was a totally not cost effective hydro project.

"Tennessee Valley Authority
federally-owned electric utility corporation in the United States"

I wonder if the Government owns any oil companies?

I remember during the 70s oil crisis, there was a push to convert automobiles to propane. There were conversions done, some by backyard mechanics and tinkerers, and some actually worked well. However, before the idea took off, the crisis abated. And would have come up against the same problems electric vehicles did early on. Few places to re-fill legions of vehicles at scale and would have required Government mandates and subsidies.

Just doing what I want now.
