I am looking to buy a new truck. Most likely a Chevy 2500HD, but not a diesel. I am buying myself a retirement gift to myself, and I want a new truck. If you have one, how do you like it, and what would you change, if you could go back and change it?
I know all brands have issues at some point in time, and everyone has different opinions about brands, but Chevrolet guys, what say you.

If you have business use for it and use it at least 50% of the time for business there are some nice tax benefits on vehicles over 6000 lbs.

I’ve got a 2016 GMC 3/4 ton.
Great truck for pulling a load.
Not very good gas mileage, but that’s to be expected.
Heavy suspension makes it not the smoothest riding empty.
10 years old, 120 some thousand miles.
Few small problems, but overall a good truck.

2025 Chevy 2500 HD Z71 bought new last year.6.6 liter engine with 10 speed Allison tranny.Put a plow on it for last winter.Very pleased so far.Plenty of power for plowing and towing my boat,,and the 10 speed tranny is real smooth.

Better due your research on recalls for Chevy/GMC trucks. Transmission issues and especially 6.2L engine problems.

Problems have not been fixed, engineers for GM say that management doesn't want to spend the money to do things correctly.

If your in a rust belt area ....just look at older Chevy trucks to

See if the rockers and cab corners and beds are rusty...

Then the first thing I'd do with a new truck is get it oiled up.

The newer 6, 8 and 10 speed transmissions are failing at extremely high rates. There are things you can do to extend their lives, but they aren't the good old 4L60 or 4L80's.

If I was looking for a retirement truck, I'd be looking for a 2001 to 2003 model, low mileage from a salt free state.

I have a 2022 Chevrolet 2500. I have had transmission problems. Been in the shop twice. Mine does not have have an Allison transmission. Hopefully they have it fixed now. I was getting 15 mpg, I had a flatbed put on it and getting around 11-12 mpg

I would never buy a new truck, but would buy one that is a couple years old with lower mileage.

Every time I laugh, cough, or sneeze, my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires.

My son has a four year old 2500 with the 6.8 engine and about 90,000 miles. No drivetrain issues, but some nagging problems with little electrical issues - like key fob. My son in law has a six month old 2500 with the duramax and 20,000 miles. No issues at all. Something I really worry about - and I have a 2026 - 1500 with the little duramax - the buttons and technology make it look like flying a plane. Some of that stuff is going to go out and it aint gonna be cheap.

My buddy has one of those fancy touch screens and he cracked it wiping it down while cleaning his truck. Cost him $1200.

Buy the extended warranty on the electrical components. Factory warranty up to 36,000. Think extra is 7 years 100,000. If it’s going to go out it should by then

I know you asked about input from the Chevy guys. But, my retirement truck I ordered a F350 with 7.3 gas 4.30 gears. Carpet delete. No regrets. It made a lot more sense for me to get the 350 for more capacity to haul a stock trailer, big toy hauler and truck camper for not much more money. I assume Chevy has similar options.
