Acquired two of these feeders a while back from a guy that I did a beaver job for. Traded $50 each off the beaver work. They were rusted, had bad spinners and timers, pit rusted braces, bent legs, etc.

After welding new braces, straightening legs, putting on steel skids, sanding & painting, new spinner kits/batteries with solar....I now have about $250 in each of them.

Finished 1st one last fall and finally finished the 2nd one and got it into position & anchored yesterday.

Won't put any corn in it until late summer when fawns & poults are much bigger (no creation of a predatory death trap) and velvet racks are almost fully developed for some photos. I suspend all artificial feeding in March annually as spring green-up takes over....and to be legal for turkey hunting.

Always something to do......

Good deal Mr. Swamp.

Supplemental feeding is one of the management practices I’ve never gotten into. I work hard on having my plots produce Fall / Winter /Spring with summer being for soil regeneration with buckwheat planting. Also run minerals hard.

Looks like you have those beasts ready to roll. Assuming you can hold 500lbs or so in each??

Not sure how much they'll hold, but probably 500lbs. I've had 300 in the 1st one and it would have held 200 more for sure.

Down here in the deep South, we seem to struggle with drought often. Rarely can I keep year-round plots up and running.

Definitely a struggle, particularly in that sand you got down there. Sand don't hold water.

I'm kind of on the fence about raccoon feeders and supporting nest predators.

Looks like it would be a task for an old man - like me grin - to climb that ladder with 50 lbs corn on my shoulder. Have you figured out any easy way to fill it?

I dont look at a feeder as supporting coons and nest predators. As a trapper, I look at it as supplying a target rich environment. Probably the easiest way to impact the most nest predators on your place. I can trap within 100 yards of my feeders in spring - and not get a picture of a coon for three months.

Nice Swamp. Last summer I picked up a Treeline gravity feeder it holds 400 lbs. caught them on sale for 250 dollars. Thought about it the next day and decided l would go get the other one. Well it had went back up to 400 dollars and I decided against it.You can fill them standing on the ground.

Definitely a good thing if you trap it and good way to clean them out but I keep hearing deer hunters constantly complaining about coons eating all their corn and it never dawns on them that they set out the buffet. And most of the complainers would never allow trappers or coon hunters in because it would "disturb" the deer.

The coons pay the price when they bunch up at the feed.

Not too bad due to the ladder.

I have one of the Moultrie's like in your pic, too. Its easy to move as needed. I bought the feet kit for the legs and stake it down so the wind dont blow it over or a bear don't push it over too easily (bear will likely tear the spinner off, anyway.)

The one I have has the timer that connects to the same Moultrie app that my cell cameras use. I can change feed times, feed amount & how much is left, make it spin on demand, or turn it off all from my phone if I'm within about 50yds of the feeder. This is handy as I don't have to touch the spinner.

Wish the others I have had this wireless connection.

I put a 50lb bag on the platform then climb up and pour in hopper. Can't climb with an extra 50 on my knees.

Only see 3 or 4 coons, usually 1 or 2 at a time at the feeders. But, I keep them in check.

The metal, larger hopper-type feeders are costly.

A new one like these two (if a manufacturer can be found) is upwards of $500 to $800 or more. One almost exactly like these with the 12 volt/solar and ladder/platform is $1100. So, when I saw these just sitting in this guy's yard I asked if he was interested in parting with them. I took a close look at them and determined I could repair them to a great condition.

Swamp, I've heard it said that if it weren't for pivot irrigation, South Georgia couldn't grow a thing.

Most years that is very accurate.

Have plans for several warm season food plots (as always), but I'm currently in the middle of that dark red area of bad drought, so pouring $$ onto the ground for nothing is not appealing.

Ya'll are lucky!!!

We have ag fields, but many more acres of timberland. Probably 30% fields/70% woods.

A 110" buck here at the Ga-Fl line is a whopper and is likely a 5.5+ year old buck. An occasional 120" to 130" shows up but they are RARE!

I've been watching that map myself for several months now. The pine back home is going to be stressed and vulnerable to beetles if it doesn't get a good soaking this spring.
