I would just short notch it and add some swivels. Use it in the water.
I seem to be in the minority, but I weaken the springs on all my rat and mink traps

I run a lot of #2 Victors for mink. I put a expanded pan, and run a swivel mid chain, and that is about it. When I ran them with the original pans I always night latched them, as I night latch everything.

A Vic 2 is great for blind sets on land as it catches them high. Its great in the water for the same reason. I run the factor chain if they are still good, if not something about that length. You can rig them on drowning rigs but I never needed to as mink tend to be in a #2 in the morning no matter how its rigged.

Hey Gunny, does your expanded pan drop all the way down missing the levers at lockup?

Yes sir. My pans fire with very little downward movement. The pans on my #2's are from Wild River Traps and are made specifically for the Vics.
