A lot of the cheap head lamps and clip on hat lights have the option of going red. If it’s still too bright for crawlers I just add a strip or two of scotch tape over lens.

Head lamp lets you pick with both hands!

We just wait and go out after a big rain. Then the streets are full of them. Just need to pick them up.

Cheap led works best as others have mentioned with red sullophane filter... I used to get red cellophane in the craft department. And then just cut a piece off and rubber band it on to the end of whatever flashlight.I was using

Red headlight, knee pads and the bait container hanging from your neck
Green light works good also if you see better with that color

I've noticed that too. They were much slower when I was kid for sure.

I grabbed and sold night crawlers with my brothers from the time I was big enough to catch them as a kid. We were selling them for 25 cents a dozen when i started and $1.25 / doz the last I sold. It was good spending money. I remember getting in bed after two or three hours of grabbing them and still seeing them when I closed my eyes.

Each day is a gift. LIVE IT with gratitude.

Used to catch a lot of them for a weeks worth of fishing in Michigan, 6-7 of us fishing.
I learned not to clip my fingernails a day or two before trying to catch them.
Strange how you loose the feeling in your finger tips.
Think they're about $ 4.00 a dozen now, if not higher.

And I've noticed you have to reach a lot farther for them.

That works or you can catch them easily during a rain.

You know you're old when you walk past a rest room and think, as long as I'm here........
