I tore my meniscus in my right knee some time ago.
And had surgery on it Friday.

Anyone else have it done?
Good/Bad or otherwise?

On short term disability from work for 3 months.

I have had it done twice then ended up having a total knee replacement. I wish they would have just done the replacement first. I am sure the techniques have advanced, I wish you the best.

Had bilateral knees replaced, but no ligament surgery...don't know what the PT is for that, I'm guessing replacements is faster healing...??

I had a half inch tear in my left meniscus. I had surgery on Friday walked out of the hospital the same morning and was back at work Monday. The dr. Did recommend a week off.

Just had same surgery. They trimmed the meniscus and drained some cysts. It went well and in a couple days I started working short hour in days. I am the owner first couple days I used a scooter or crutches for assist. After that with a little limp for a few full hour days then made my knee start doing it. Working on the floor all day few weeks later. My surgery went well and I am healthy and slim. Good luck! If you have that kinda time off take it and take your time.

Pretty much the same in my case. Doctor did say we are just buying time for whole knee replacement. I have had a number of leg injuries in my younger days.

Both left & right meniscus' are ragged from age-related wear and tear. Had left knee "cleaned up" and oil changed about 18 months ago. Did absolutely no good. Waste of money. But, in all fairness to my doc, he told me there was about 20% of folks that the endoscopic surgery helped. I was in that other 80%.

Doc told me to hold off on total knee replacement until I couldn't bear the pain. I'm not bone on bone......yet. I'm 61 years old. Every day and every step is painful. Some days are worse that others.

I've had 6 meniscus tear surgeries. 1st one was 2007. Depends on what you do for work on recovery time. Cortisone shots work but with each one they don't work as long. Recovering right now from my 2nd total knee replacement. Wish I would have done the replacement years ago. 20days post surgery now. Can already bend to 90 degrees and starting to do stairs with way less pain than before surgery.

Thanks everyone, I'm walking on it.
I have a cold pack pump , 1 hour on 1 hour off.
And pain killers of course.

Surgeon said meniscus was just shredded, so he cleaned
it all out , along with the arthritis.

Hoping to get 7 years out of it before I do a total knee replacement.

Swamp, if you're not bone on bone you must be awful close, pain on every step is a pretty good sign...If you wait to long you'll stop doing what you love soon....I'd get a separate opinion....

Had meniscus surgery 3 weeks ago the doc was able to do a repair instead of cleaning it out. The first couple of days were a little rough but after about a week no more pain. The downside with the repair is a longer recovery time. 2 to 3 months for it to heal completely.

Knee and hip surgery should be done BEFORE you can't take the pain. And everybody that I know who waited too long regrets it. Much harder to recover when you are out of shape, which happens a lot when your knees and hips are shot

I had meniscus surgery on my right knee in 2019. I was able to baby it and take it easy for as long as I wanted.
I was walking completely normal within 2 weeks. One year till I was fully healed and could bend my knee without any pinching.

Only problem is now it’s sensitive to cold.

Just had my ACL reconstruction with a bonus meniscus trimming 9 days ago. Had the same procedure on the other knee 5 years ago. The first week is a bit rough. Keeping the swelling down and ROM movement is the key focus for the first two weeks.
The knee that was done first mended pretty well. I am working as hard as I can on this latest one. Expecting 9 months of recovery with it.

Chad I hope you get to feeling better soon and sadly for now you'll need to put your next attempt at setting a new world record for speed rope jumping on aback burner !
