What do you recommend that wont break the bank? How close do you have to get to start picking up a signal? I lost a log chain this morning in the duff while cutting hedge posts. Not an expensive chain but its bothering me.

For a log chain I'm betting you don't need much of a machine....but...you may get hooked and dive down the rabbit hole, lol

Get yourself one of those magnets that will pick up 50 lbs. Tie a short cord on it and go find your chain. What's really good about it is just stick it somewhere in the bed of your truck or SxS. That way you will always have it on hand. Nuts, bolts, washers and loose nails. Makes finding metal things easy.

This is good advice. If you own one of these magnets you will use it more than you think.

Its likely underneath thorny osage orange brush. It may be tough to find.

If you know about where its at you could use a corn rake to try and fish it out.

Don't waste $ on an MD if you're not gg2 use it for other detecting.

Assuming the chain is on top of the ground, you'll spot it before you're close enough to detect it.

for around 25-30 dollars you can get a magnet on wheels on a handle

drag that around the area you lost it in , and it is great for picking up nails and shotgun hulls.

he said I bet my wife swept the garage , he sweeps it into a corner and scoops it up because he knows he drops screws and nails.

by the time I was done I think I had 6 screws a nail , 2 pennies and a little plumbing fitting that is just what I saw

I bought a cheap one at Sportsmans warehouse a few years ago. I found the trap I was looking for. It was dark and I needed it out of there. I think sheep were moving in or something.

Go to your local rental center and rent one on Friday afternoon and have it for the whole weekend and return it on Monday morning.

Good idea. It shouldn't take a fancy detector to find a log chain.

I tried painting one but it didn't help that much

I am thinking some blaze orange flagging tied on with like a foot of it hanging off in a couple spots would work better as the flagging wouldn't sink through the leaves like the chain does.

Only before bedtime. I have enought trouble with a "clear" mind.

I don't but every winter when trying to find traps after heavy snows, I swear I am going to get one.
