Have seen fawns many times in early April, but these two seem to be several weeks old already. Late September or very early October conception. About 10% of the does here cycle then.

Other than the bucks nubbing out pretty good, hadn’t seen any youngins except for woodduck ducklings. We seem to get a couple of broods on the beaver pond beside the house each year. Waiting for some goslings to show.

Y’all fellers got some sandy soil down yonder!

Pure sugar sand in a lot of areas here. We were the ocean floor and beaches here a little longer & more recently than you Virginians were.....

I just saw my first single new born fawn this evening. It appears it was just born and still somewhat wobbly in walking. The old doe is still cleaning the fawn when I saw them briefly.

Just replace cushioning with bushhogging lol.

He won't bushhog anymore tall grass cos he doesn't wanna chop up fawns is the gist of it.

Gotta find a way, a better way, I'd better wait

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you

Thanks yote trap. Apparently auto correct on my phone does not recognize bushhogging.

A few years back I did run over a fawn. So I quit mowing mid April tell July with the hopefully they will be big enough by then to get out of the way. I have not cut any fields in the last year and a half some sections in 2 since I have been at work. When I do I only do sections at a time never an entire field so the wild like always has different stages of growth and places to go. .

Just a lot of round does here. Haven’t seen any little ones yet. Maybe more into middle-late May here.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I caught a sow beaver today still pregnant! 3 kits from 2 other spots, never seen them still pregnant this late out in the spring. Usually have them in late Feb.

Got a couple photos at a distance of our first fawn seen this Spring. The doe was keeping her baby close to cover and wouldn't come close to the house. She was seen cleaning the fawn for the brief time I could see her. She quickly disappeared in a few moments out of site.

These photos were taken at about 60 yards thru the window. I would likely not have seen her had I not been standing at the kitchen sink doing dishes at that precise moment.

I don't typically see fawns out in the open until early June around here. They seem to keep the fawns in cover until they get older it seems around here.

The beauty of nature at work.
